Afraid of Contraceptive
I guess a more apt title would be “afraid of hormonal imbalance.” I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and, at least for me, any change in hormones has been noticeable. Every time I get pregnant, my hormones have to be fixed. Every time I give birth, my hormones need to be fixed. As I recently posted, I have gone off birth control, and you guessed it: my hormones need to be fixed.
Actually, the reading I have done says that people with low progesterone, like me, do need to be off normal birth control. However, I did experience a withdrawal of sorts after ridding my body of a hormone it has been on for years. My teenager acne is better (darn it, I thought I had outgrown that! Turns out, it was my birth control) as well hormonal imbalance.
Getting off the birth control was just the first step. Now I need to find an herbal supplement and/or change my diet to help find the proper balance. My doctor initially recommended a birth control for my low progesterone, but it was seventy-five dollars a month! I just can’t afford that. And, truth be told, I am afraid of going on another type of birth control. I am just tired of the roller coaster that hormone imbalance brings.

Why not try a diaphragm? I’ve been using one now for almost six months and it’s not bad at all. I little inconvenient because you have to plan ahead a little, but compared to the hormonal issues involved with birth control, it’s totally worth it.

That’s a great idea and I definitely will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have PCOS too, and it’s such a pain. Emotionally, I”m a rollercoaster all the time. When I have my period I’m a total emotional mess, and any birth control pills make me totally nuts! I actually do get my cycle by itself now, but the hormones are still out of control, it is so exhausting, i’ve considered going back on metformin but all of my hormone levels show up as normal right now. ugh. totally understand this one, letm eknow if you find something that wokrs for you.

Currently I am taking Vitex (also called chasteberry) and things seem to be going good. I have only been on it for three days so far but it is supposed to be one of the best for natural cures for hormone imbalance! Give it a shot! I found it at a vitamin shop.
