My friend called me in a bind, basically begging me to watch her two kids for the day. The sitter she had lined up bailed on her, she had to work and her husband was out of town for work. Of course I agreed. I figure adding two kids to my bunch wasn’t really going to make much for a difference anyway. The biggest hassle was going to be picking her kids up from school. I knew I would not be able to fit all six kids into my car at once so I worked it out with my sister to have my oldest two stay at her house. My sister just lives next door so it was the simplest solution. I also decided to let my kids have the day off from from school ( we homeschool ) and we would just make up for it on Saturday.

Here is how my day went.

6:15 – Woke up early by three year old daughter.
6:15 – 7:45 – Watching cartoons with three year old daughter
7:45 – Other three kids wake up.
8  – 8:30 Breakfast.
8:30 – 9:30 – Coach older two children to clean rooms.
9:30 – 10:30 – Rush to get some house work done.
10:30 – 10:45 -Finish getting everyone dressed.
10:45 – Head out to get friend’s daughter from pre – school.
10:45 – 11:15 – Drive across town, wait in parking lot to get her from school, pick her up and drive back to my house.
11:15 – Start lunch
11:45 – 12:15 – Eat lunch.
12:15 – 3:00 – Playing with kids, get baby down for nap and cleaning house.
3:05 – Head out of get friend’s son from school.
3:05 – 3:30 – Drive across town, wait in large car line to pick him up, drive back to my house.
3:30 – 4:00 – Help friend’s son with home work
4:00 – 5:00 – Enjoy slight peace while kids entertain themselves
5:00 – Husband gets home.
5:15 – 5:45 – Cook supper.
5:45 – 6:15 – Try to eat supper, while trying to get all six kids to eat.
6:15 – Clean up a very messing baby who is covered head to toe in spaghetti.
6:30 – 7 – Chris and I clean up after supper.
7 :00 – 9:00 – Entertain kids, try to relax and do some blogging.
9:00 – Friend picks up her kids.
9:15 – 9:45 -Put my very over tired kids to bed.
10:00 – Crash on the couch and read a book until I fall asleep.

Overall the day went pretty smoothly. My kids had a blast playing with friends and I guess I have proven to myself that I could easily handle having six kids!

That’s awesome! The thought of caring for someone else’s kids along with my own has always petrified me, until a mama with four kids (one newborn) offered to take my three kids so that me and the hubs could have a date night, i was thinking “Are you CRAZY?!!!” She was serious though! I guess i just have to step out of my comfort zone… Thanks for posting this!
