My husband is a big fan of camping, and even though we left it a little late this year, he still wanted the girls to have their first ever camping trip. Because our youngest is only fourteen months, and a very light sleeper, we didn’t want to go too far from home. The weather has gotten downright frigid, and I also worried about the temperature getting too cold for the kids. So my husband came up with the next best thing: camping in the living room!
He wasn’t sure initially if the tent was too big, but after we pushed the furniture out we made it work. The girls have enjoyed watching movies while inside their big tent made cozy with pillows and sleeping bags. We have made popcorn and hot coca. It’s funny how much I enjoy movies like Shrek and Charlotte’s Web—almost as much as they do!
I love this kind of compromise because doing it this way we still get to “go” camping, and have the experience without the expense of renting a campground or paying for food and gas. Anything that makes our family fun cheaper is OK with me!
I just wish I hadn’t forgotten the S’mores!
