Crunchy ABCs: A is for…

The first edition of the crunchy ABCs!  In this article, A is for amber, is about the benefits of Baltic amber and how incorporating it into your life can help you live a little more eco-friendly.

Amber

When your baby hits that magical age when teething begins (usually around 6-7 months, but sometimes earlier or later), the pain sets in and subsequently turns your formerly delightful child into a drooly, screaming, hurting mess.  Before I became my current crunchy self, I used to do what mainstream society told me to: use medications such as Tylenol and Orajel and freeze teethers for the baby to chew on.

Now I know about Baltic amber and all its wonderful properties, and since using an amber teething necklace with my third child I have noticed an amazing difference in our teething experience.  Baltic amber contains oil with high concentrations of succinic acid which release once warmed from skin.  A necklace worn directly against the skin releases these healing oils onto your child, allowing him to feel better from this natural pain killer.  There are higher concentrations of healing oils in the lighter colored amber, but you receive benefits from the amber no matter the shade.

I have seen such a difference compared to my other children.  No longer do I have a drooly, screaming, hurting mess of a child.  I now have a mildly drooly, occasionally whimpering, slightly uncomfortable baby cutting teeth.  It’s definitely changed the teething experience for both of us, and I love that I’m not putting foreign, man-made chemicals into his body.

And amber’s health benefits aren’t just for babies!  Besides aiding with teething pain, amber worn on various parts of the body can help with arthritis, carpal tunnel, back pain, menstrual pain, and migraines!  I can personally attest to the help with carpal tunnel; since wearing an amber bracelet, the pain in my hand and wrist is significantly improved.

There are many great retailers of amber jewelry, but the two I can speak about are Inspired By Finn and Baltic Creations.  Both have wonderful customer service and sell beautiful pieces of amber jewelry that are both functional and attractive!

Love the idea but could this be a choking/strangulation hazard for a baby?

This is great info! I just got my dd an amber necklace, and I can’t wait for it to get here. :)

I LOVE the Amber Necklace from Baltic Creations for my DD. I don’t know what I would do without it since she is currently getting in 6 teeth at once.

Katiekat: no, you only allow the necklace to be on the child’s neck while they are awake and in your supervision. For other times you can double wrap it around an ankle.

I also discovered amber with my third child and love it! I’m excited for this blog and can’t wait to discover all the ABC’s!

Amber has really saved my sanity (and $$ in tylenol costs). I’ve used amber with my 3 kids, and have been very happy to say that it works. Now, if I can just get my necklaces back from my SIL so I can put them back on my cranky kids…. life will be grand again! Oh, and another cheer here for Inspired by Finn. I’ve purchased 3 different times, and am equally impressed each time~ Her work is amazing, pricing is competitive, and best yet, her amber works great for us!

We love our amber teething necklaces, they really do make a difference and the relief they give our LO is wonderful. I didn’t know that the lighter shades have more higher concentrations of healing oils, I now have a really good excuse to get some more, LOL. I can’t wait to see more Crunchy ABCs.

I love the idea of Crunchy ABC’s I can not wait to see what will come next! My DS just got his Baltic amber necklace last week, and it couldn’t get here soon enough our first tooth is starting to come through this week :) I definitely noticed a difference in his mood with the necklace, but I got him a dark colored one (mainly because I thought it look more manly :)…. and now I am concerned I did not know the lighter colored ones had higher concentrations of healing oil…. I hope I made a good decision. Truly the only issue I have had is his older sister wants to were it ALL the time :) Should I get her one…. even though she is 3 and obviously not teething?

Our amber teething necklace has been a God send!! My little Lucy has had hers on since she was 3 months old – it only comes off for baths and she is now almost 15 months old. I recommend them all the time. Liana with Baltic Creations is soooo great to work with! Everyone should have *at least* a teething necklace/anklet for their baby and I even wear one of her ‘pregnancy necklaces’, which not only helps but is so beautiful I get compliments on it everyday. Thanks for posting this for those who don’t already know how AMAZING baltic amber is!

@LaineyReidMom I got my 3 yr old one for leg pain! They are cute, anyway so even if they aren’t teething they look good :)

GREAT article mama! But amber isn’t at all just for teething babies! I use raw amber for newborns to prevent gas and colic and even reflux, older children use amber for many things including aches and pains and and adults benefit from Baltic amber for MANY things. It can blow your mind to find out just how much amber can help with. To all that mentioned me thank you. I love what I do and knowing that I am helping each person I make something for to be pain free!

Love it!! Thanks for the great info. I received a necklace for dd1 during a time when she would wake up at night with growing pains. The amber has made a huge difference. I just ordered myself, dd2, and my mom some yummy amber necklaces and bracelets. Besides the benefits, they are pretty too.
