Fall scavenger hunt

I was looking for something fun to do with the kids, it was a beautiful day out so I decided we were going to have a fall scavenger hunt. I printed up a quick list of ten items that I knew would be easy for them to find and we headed out to the park.

Our fall scavenger hunt included ten items that I knew we would be able to find at the park we always play at.

1. A red leaf
2. A yellow leaf
3. A brown leaf
4. A colorful rock
5. A small twig
6. Tree bark
7. A nut
8. A flower
9. A blade of grass
10. A pine cone

The three leafs were the easiest for them to find since the park is full of all kinds of different trees. There was a huge pile of leafs and they had a blast playing in them and searching for the colors they needed.  It was a tad  harder to find the flower but did find a dandelion, everything else was pretty quick and easy fort hem to to find. They had a great time with it. I used it as a lesson about nature, we studied the leafs, talked about why they turn colors in the fall, we watched some squirrels burying nuts and I told them why squirrels do that, we talked about the different types of trees, the way the grass will sleep through winter and turn green again in the spring and we just spent time talking  about the things we found.

I love doing stuff like this with the kids. It is nice to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather and still make it educational. It can be easy for me to get wrapped up in the book work and reading lessons so taking a day to do something fun was a nice change for everyone.
