My son had his first tball game. I had moments of being really proud watching him play and moments of sadness, my little man is just getting so big.
Alex loves sports but he is really small for his age so we decided to wait till he was six to have him join a team. When he signed him up he was really excited about it. He told everyone we know that he was going to be playing tball this year and he wanted them to come watch him play. We started having little practices at home to help get him ready.
As the date for the first game approached I noticed he seemed nervous. I asked him what was wrong and he told me he was scared he would not be able to hit the ball. He did not want the other kids to be better at the game then he was. I told him not to worry, everyone was still going to be learn to play the game and it was more about having fun playing than anything else. He seemed more relaxed about it but still was nervous to play.
He did amazing at his first game. I was so proud of him! He was hitting the ball really well, being an excellent team player, running to all the bases as fast as he could and even caught the ball a couple times while practicing with his partner. He wants to do all the sports he can now. Soccer starts in the fall and he is already asking when we get to sign him up for it. I am really glad he is having a good time. I am a firm believer that sports are an excellent teaching tool for kids and I want him to be involved in as many as he can.
