While Joy Bauer is best known as the popular Today Show’s diet and nutrition expert, she shares her effective exercise routine on her new DVD Joy Bauer’s Slimdown Workout. Fitness trainer Lisa Wheeler instructs the workout and actively participates while Joy Bauer shows you how it’s done. The best part of all, it’s actually a simple fitness program that anyone can do.
Two 20-Minute Workouts
The DVD is split up into two 20-minute workouts that can easily be added to your day. Whether you’re looking to try something new, vary up your workout DVD options, or to get started working out, this one fits in no matter what you’re looking for. It covers the basics, gives a full body workout, and is actually pretty fun. Who knew simple could actually be entertaining?
Cardio Strength 1 is part cardio and part core strengthening. My favorite part? The side lunge is fantastic for lower back discomfort. Honestly, the entire workout was excellent for strengthening the lower back and working out the tension caused by being at the computer or driving a lot. The first part is all mild cardio, then you get into more traditional conditioning with push ups and crunches, but rest assured these can be done at your own level.
Cardio Strength 2 incorporates weights to increase the strength training and muscle building. All you need are hand weights and a mat to do this workout. It’s not too complicated.
What I like best about the instructor Lisa Wheeler is that she takes the time to really explain proper form for these movements. I know there are some people out there that are natural exercise experts, but for some of us that are more in the “intellectual” or perhaps “nerd” crowd, explanation makes all the difference in getting it to make sense and actually happen correctly.

Of course, on this DVD she takes the opportunity to share her insights and knowledge on the subject. What I like best about Joy Bauer is that she keeps encouraging the viewers to do what they can do, that they should challenge themselves but it’s okay if you can’t keep up just yet. As she says, “Just keep moving and you’ll get a workout!” It’s true. If you get in there and try without going overboard you’re more likely to actually want to do it again next time. Plus, as long as you’re moving through the whole thing while picking and choosing which moves to give your best to, you’re still getting a decent workout.
