Giveaway! Prenatal Yoga with Desi Bartlett DVD

This contest is now closed! The winner has been announced in the last post.

Acacia provided this workout DVD for this review plus a brand new Prenatal Yoga with Desi Bartlett DVD for one lucky DiaperSwappers reader!

Remember that when you are pregnant be sure to consult your doctor or midwife before starting any exercise program.

Prenatal Yoga with Desi Bartlett

Desi Bartlett is the creator and instructor of Yoga for Beginners, 3-in-1 Total Body Fitness, and Dance and Be Fit: Latin Groove. Upon her own pregnancy, she took the opportunity to create Prenatal Yoga with Desi Bartlett. Having worked with many expectant mothers and then becoming one herself, she teaches on this DVD gentle and safe yoga practice for pregnancy.

Prenatal Yoga with Desi Bartlett is designed to be used at any point during pregnancy, however modifications are available to anyone feeling the need for more physical support and careful movement (especially during the third trimester). In fact, in the Bonus Features you will find a section of the workout completely modified using a folding chair for support (which is mentioned in the regular workout, but you can get greater instruction on this modification in the special feature).

The only thing I didn’t like about this DVD is that she teaches from a round yoga mat. Anyone following this exercise is going to be using a normal rectangular yoga mat. Therefore at times it can be tricky to figure out which direction to face based on your yoga mat. It does seem that if your yoga mat is laid out horizontal to your TV that it will be easier to follow than if you do so vertically.

The exercise is gentle, though a bit challenging in the last section. Fortunately, you can customize the DVD to you.

Workout Options:

Meditation (2 minutes)
Floor Sequence (10 minutes)
Standing Sequence (20 minutes)
Floor Restoratives (10 minutes)
Savasana and Closing Meditation (3 minutes)

The last two sections require additional exercise equipment:
– A blanket (for cushioning)
– 2 yoga blocks (for support)

Practicing Prenatal Yoga with Desi Bartlett on DVD is an excellent way to keep up strength and flexibility. This exercise is great for adjusting to your ever changing body during pregnancy and essential for enduring childbirth.

I have never tried yoga but it is something that I have been wanting to start! Due to hubby’s work schedule I can’t get into any local classes :(

  2. Jill on January 19th, 2011 8:44 am

I have never tried yoga, but I need an easy inside workout for the next few months!

  3. rawheid on January 19th, 2011 8:52 am

I have never tried yoga, but now that I’m pregnant I’d love to have something to do in the house.

  4. Melissa on January 19th, 2011 9:52 am

I love yoga! I have been doing it for years and the week never feels quite right if I miss it.

  5. Lexy on January 19th, 2011 11:52 am

I attempted yoga 1 time in highschool as an extracurricular activity…I was so sore the following day, I felt like I was 100yrs. old! :) I haven’t done it since, but have also been pregnant every yr. since graduating, so I haven’t wanted to introduce anything new into my reg. exercise routine. Now that I will be attempting a VBA3C in April, my doula has suggested I find a yoga class to get my body prepared. Classes are just too expensive for us, so a dvd at home suits us better financially as well as having a 3,2,1yr. old.

I LOVE doing yoga! I do it almost every other day, and did prenatal yoga with my first LO(but super boring DVD). I think it helped me to have a very easy natural childbirth. :)

  7. analyticalmomma on January 19th, 2011 12:57 pm

I have only done one yoga class and I don’t think it was really representative of what yoga actually is. Would love to try this and stay in shape safely during pregnancy!

  8. Reagansmama on January 19th, 2011 1:14 pm

I have never tried yoga, but love to exercise, and have been looking for something to do inside during my pregnancy in these cold winter months! Maybe this would be just the thing!

  9. dagmomma on January 19th, 2011 1:15 pm

I LOVE yoga! I just started about a year ago and It made me relax so much–I needed to relax lol!

Now I am pregnant with my third and I am trying to be alot more healthier in this pregnancy then the previous too. The pregnancies themselves were healthy but the weight gain was ridiculous!!!!

I had since lost all the baby weight through healthy eating and fun exercise like yoga. I am hoping to continue to do yoga throughout this pregnancy.

  10. Maya on January 19th, 2011 1:23 pm

I’ve been doing Shiva Rea’s Prenatal Yoga sporadically throughout this pregnancy. It’s nice but I’m started to get bored with doing the same routine. I would love a new video to try!

  11. Earthmama97 on January 19th, 2011 1:54 pm

  15. devynstarr on January 19th, 2011 6:42 pm

  16. Kotzurk on January 19th, 2011 9:32 pm

  21. sh0rtchica on January 20th, 2011 10:02 am

I used to do yoga all the time! First classes at the gym, then on TV at home. Haven’t done it in a while, though, and my body misses it. Almost 6 months pregnant so any kind of stretching will help me get ready for this birth:)

  22. camille on January 20th, 2011 10:03 am

i used yoga during my pregnancy for relaxation (i had high blood pressure) and also for flexibility (since i planned on using hypnobirthing) until my 28th week….i fell and severely twisted my ankle and couldn’t do ANY physical activity for a month and then i was too big and tired to get the motivation to do anything anyway… do ladies on bedrest do it?! anyway, i hope next time around to be a yogi all the way to birth! :)

  23. babygirl10 on January 20th, 2011 10:06 am

I have never tried yoga, but always wanted to.

  24. kctaylor on January 20th, 2011 10:11 am

I have tried Yoga loved it! I never tried Prenatal Yoga while pregnant the studio here will not allow you to take classes if you haven’t been doing it over a year. I didn’t think expecting women could practice Yoga! So glad to know it is possible it has been so great for minor back issues. Knowing I can continue with this DVD makes me feel alot better!!! =D

  25. veveland on January 20th, 2011 10:27 am

I have never tried yoga!! But I really really want to-especially now that I’m expecting baby #3!

  26. wordmama on January 20th, 2011 10:30 am

I practiced yoga all through my son’s pregnancy and for years before that (thanks to a local group who made the classes really affordable). Since we’ve moved to a more urban environment, I haven’t been able to find a class that fit my budget! I’d love an at-home video to follow!

  27. kaysumsak on January 20th, 2011 10:40 am

  35. RowdyCowboy on January 20th, 2011 7:48 pm

I was able to take a short course, but had difficulty making it to class due to scheduling constraints (hello! mom schedule!). And it was really healping my sacroiliac preggo pain too. Would love something I could do at home, as I am new to yoga and need to be guided through the moves. Thanks for the opportunity

  47. Sandy on January 22nd, 2011 3:09 pm
