Keeping my house cleaner

We are a family of six, living in a decent sized home. I wish we had more space but we make do with what we have. One of the biggest problems we have when it comes to keeping our house clean is a lack of organization and to much clutter. Last year we donated more items then I can count to our local Goodwill, we sold a lot of stuff and we gave a lot away to friends and family. We are doing the same thing this year, you wouldn’t think we would still have this much stuff but we do and we need to downsize.

I recently spent an entire day cleaning the whole downstairs of my house. The rooms down stairs are the kitchen, living room, my bedroom, nursery and bathroom. I cleaned them top to bottom, decluttered them and made sure everything was sparkling clean. It was a large undertaking but it felt so good to get it done. Now that it is done, it should be a lot easier to keep it looking this way.

The nursery is a pretty small room so it is fairly easy to clean up and keep looking nice. The biggest thing is putting away toys and vacuuming. It generally only takes about 5 minuets of work each day. Once a week or so I will wash windows and vacuum all the edges.

The living room will take more work, we spend most of our time in that room. Each day my plan is to pick up, wipe off the kids table and chairs, sweep, mop and vacuum the rugs. It only takes about fifteen minuets of work a day to keep my living room looking nice. Once a week I will clean windows, dust off all surfaces and do any other cleaning that needs done.

The bathroom I have to do more cleaning each day. I disinfect the sink, toilet and the floor. I am sure all you moms understand that kids are messy in the bathroom and that is one thing that really grosses me out. It is taking about fifteen minutes a day to keep it looking nice in there. A couple times a week I do a full cleaning in there.

The kitchen takes the longest each day. Since I am home with the kids for three meals a day, every single day, it gets a little messy. I do not always have time right after each meal to do the dishes and by the end of the day there were a lot of them. Now that I got the kitchen into tip top shape I am making sure that before bed the dishes are done and all surfaces are wiped. I also sweep every day and every other day I mop. I do one load of dishes in the afternoon and my husband does one after dinner. Just by doing that we are keeping up on things a lot better.

Congrats on all your hard work! I’ve been doing the exact same thing and it’s so nice to have the house all tidy and have a routine to keep it that way :)

Wow, I am impressed. I work 3 days a week and there is no way I clean this much. I don’t think my house is filthy but most of the time it is picked up. You go girl. You are doing more than most people I know. Don’t get down on yourself.

I don’t see how you do that much with kids around. I pick up something and next thing I know something else is destroyed.

Wow I am impressed!! I am going to try and work this into my routine. I think our house isn’t too bad but I would like the toys away more often etc… I do light cleaning daily and my mom cleans once a month a full clean ( I pay her) my biggest thing is the toys. My husband will play with out son in the living room before bed, I will be upstairs and don’t go back down until the morning and when I do it looks like a bomb went off!
Needless to say he will be reading your post tonight to get some tips!
