Let it be Christmas time!

My husband recently told me that it didn’t “feel” like the Christmas season. I have to agree with him. The year just moves by so quickly that I am still expecting to go buy a Turkey for Thanksgiving. Instead, our meal was hurriedly prepared and this is the first time in a long time that we didn’t put the tree up before the month of December! We haven’t even bought one yet! I’ve decided the best thing to do to “feel” Christmasy is to make it Christmasy! I am going to begin decorating, bit by bit, and when our house is bright and cheery, it will bring some of the Christmas spirit in. Here are a few other tips to help.

  1. Baking—when the smell of peppermint and cinnamon fills the house, who doesn’t think Santa will swing by for some cookies?
  2. Music—I love sharing my favorite Christmas carols with my girls. It’s even better when they sing along!
  3. Christmas movies—this is a biggie. Every year we seem to acquire some new movies, to the point where it is hard to watch them all!

Ok, now that I have shared my suggestions, I’m eager to hear yours! What do you do to usher in the holidays?

The “traditional” things really do make a difference. we try and drive around to see Christmas lights and attend the Christmas light parade in out town. Bake sugar cookies to pass to neighbors, or just decorate for ourselves, making ginger bread houses. We live in CA so the weather can be pretty nice in December which doesn’t make for a cozy “white Christmas”. But we try and make Christmas time full of traditions.

I make it a point to drive the long way home at night so we can enjoy the Christmas lights on our neighbors’ houses :) We also attend “Christmasy” events as a family like Bass Pro Shop’s Winter Wonderland (FREE!) and the kids went to Christmas Camp at a local church last weekend. Also DH’s squadron at work has a kid’s Holiday Party and an Adult Holiday Party (again FREE!). With the warm weather it’s really tough to get into the Christmas spirit, but these things along with special shows/movies and music help :)
