The other night I was doodling around Facebook, you know, in my spare time (ha!). I ran across this picture and it made me literally laugh out loud.
It got me thinking about how different people in my life wake up in the morning. DH and I have always marveled at the differences between our kids, but this definitely portrays what you’ll see here in the mornings.
Despite never having been a great sleeper, Hunter wakes up raring and ready to go. He rolls out of bed ready to take on the world. Hops out of bed, bounces down the hall, and whistles while he pees. One morning, he woke up and the rest of us we very clearly still sleeping. I was trying to pry my eyelids open; DH and K burrow under the blankets. Hunter’s all chattery, laughing and being silly, and finally says, “Why are you all still sleeping!?” The hubs says, “because YOU are the only person in the world that wakes up like that!”
K needs a little time on her own terms in the morning. It perfectly fits her personality. She reminds me of a cat; if I come to you to be petted, you better pet me, but don’t you DARE try to do it otherwise. She has two perfectly good working legs, and knows her way to the living room, but prefers to sit in her bed and yell “mama” at an off the charts decibel until I retrieve her. She just doesn’t do well with mornings. I always marvel at how two children from the same parents can be so very different in some respects and so similar in others.
I would have to say the hubs is closer to K in the mornings, and I do mornings a little more like Hunter. I wake up in a good mood, but I really would prefer a few minutes of quality time with my coffee and laptop before starting the day. DH isn’t exactly a troll, but he’s definitely not bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for sure.
I do know the hubs was wrong about one thing…Hunter is not the only one that wakes up like that. He and my dad are two peas in a pod for sure. My dad was always the same way; once his feet hit the floor in the morning, he was ready to go. My mom was the exact opposite, definitely the bottom picture for sure! She was the poster child for “Instant human, just add coffee.” I always think of her when we’re watching Alvin and the Chipmunks. Dave tells the boys he wants the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 8, and Alvin replies, “My tail isn’t bushy til nine!”
What kind of person are you in the morning? How about your kids? Do you clash in the mornings due to different personalities? We all pretty much get along in the mornings, other than the days Hunter acts like it’s his mission in life to irritate his sister. Those are the mornings I really enjoy my coffee as I wait for the fists to start swinging from my sweet little princess.
