I love to read. I don’t have a ton of time to do it anymore, with the kids, but mostly I read in the evenings after they’re in bed.
I mostly read Christian fiction, but I’m always up for a good read regardless. My favorite author is Karen Kingsbury. My grandmother buys every book she writes as fast as she can get them on the shelves. In fact, we have read every book she has written. She’s an amazing writer, whose books engulf you, making you feel as though you’re living the story.
Some of my favorites are One Tuesday Morning, Beyond Tuesday Morning, Remember Tuesday Morning, and Every Now and Then, which are all based around the tragedy of 9/11.
Unlocked is a wonderful story about a young man with autism, who is reunited with his childhood best friend, Ella. Through music, she is able to help him tremendously, as no one else has done.
Throughout several different series-Redemption, First Born, Sunrise, Above the Line-most of the characters stay the same. I love being able to follow them through the different books. Some may focus more on other characters, but for the most part, they’re all there. It’s like finding a long lost friend, and catching up on their family all over again. I’m extremely excited, because there is talk of these books becoming a tv series. I know I’ll be hopelessly addicted, just as I am with the books!
Another author I’ve been following is Shelley Shephard Grey. She mostly writes Christian/Amish fiction, and a lot of it is centered around a town very close to us. In fact, my mom and I both worked in Middlefield. It’s really neat to be able to actually picture Mary Yoder’s restaurant and other familiar places when she writes about them. I also crave learning more about the Amish people. I’ve always been fascinated, and her books enable to me learn a little more about the way they live, and their language.
What do you read? Do you have a favorite author? Feel free to recommend some great books!
