Sensitive Skin

My kids have unfortunately inherited my sensitive skin. I have had very sensitive skin since I was born. My mom could only use fragrance free laundry soap and regular soap on me when I was a child and now as an adult I can use some scented soaps and bubble baths but I make my own laundry soap because I react so badly to all others. I am finding that unscented or lightly scented goat milk’s soaps work the best for me and for my kids.

My son does not have it as badly as my oldest daughter. He is not sensitive to bubble baths or laundry soap but he is sensitive to band aids and regular soap. Whenever he has a band aid on he reacts to it so we are now on the hunt for a band aid that won’t cause the reaction.

My oldest daughter is just like me and a little worse when it comes to bubble baths. The girl loves bubble baths but can not have any scent in it what so ever. She is also very sensitive to algae. She kept breaking out after being in my moms pool over the summer and we could not figure out why. I talked to her doctor and he said it was most likely algae. It was so hot over the summer that they were having a hard time keeping up with the algae but once the got rid of it, she was fine. She is also the reason we started cloth diapering in the first place. We tried for six months to find a diaper that would not make her break out. Her rash would get so bad that she would have open sores so I finally said enough and switched to cloth. Best choice I could have made. Her skin cleared right up.

The two youngest girls are sensitive to disposable diapers but I am not sure what else yet. As they get older I am sure more things will come up but I am hoping that they might be more like their father and not have to deal with it.

Mama, I am right there with you. My dd got my very very sensitive skin. She is also the reason we switched to cloth-as every sposie made her poor little butt bleed. I love that I was able to find this great ds community-great decision here also. I am still looking for a great soap, I’ve found ones that work for her, but they aren’t great. Band-aid’s we use rubber and latex free-they seem to have a different adhesive (what seems to cause dd’s reaction to them) and those work well for us. There aren’t many choices, but they are out there :) Maybe those will help your ds. Good Luck Mama :) It’s nice to know I am not alone with trying to find solutions for my dd.
