Shower Terror
My almost three year old daughter decided today she was terrified of the shower. I have never seen her react to something so badly before. After the way she acted today, she will not be in the shower with me again anytime in the near future.
Kairi likes to join me in the bath, at the end of every bath I shower to wash my hair. She has been with me while I do this several times before and never had a melt down until today. She was happily playing with her watering can and bucket while I shaved, washed myself and washed her. I was all done so I started draining the water and pulled the curtain, at this time Kairi was still playing and unaware of anything going on.
The moment I started the shower she turned into a crazed child. I swear it was like she was a caged wild animal. She started screaming at the top of her lungs, clawed the curtain open and tried to jump out. She slipped, fell backwards and narrowly missed smacking her head on the tub. I grabbed her and tried to calm her down while yelling for her dad to come and get her. Have you ever tried to hold onto a slippery wet and terrified toddler, it is not an easy task. It took Chris only a few moments to come and get her but the whole time she was screaming and trying to get away from me and out of the shower.
After daddy rescued her from the evil shower she was fine, she went out just dried, dressed and played happily while I finished washing my hair and got out. I have no clue why she freaked like she did but I have no intention of doing that again!

My son who is just shy of 2 use to take showers with me all the time as well until one day DH took him in the shower. He said he lifted him up to rinse his hair out and that was all she wrote. He didnt get soap or water in his face either. I have tried 2 other times when he has come in there while I was showering to put him in with me since he shows interest but as soon as I do he goes crazy. I dont know what happened.

You didn’t give her any warning, sounds like. And the water could have been too cold/hot for her.
I don’t think you should never try again, but next time talk to her and let her know what’s going on.

Maybe your child has developed a fear of the pounding sound of rain, or of a thunderstorm, and the sudden turning on of the shower subconsciously reminded her of one.

Maybe your child has developed a fear of the pounding sound of heavy rain, or of a thunderstorm, and the sudden turning on of the shower subconsciously reminded her of it.
