Slowing Down and Enjoying the Holidays

Anyone else guilty of getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season? I know I am but I am making a conscience effort this year to be different. I want to enjoy the season and not get stressed out about plans and events.

My family lives close by us but my husband’s family lives a couple hours away. Trying to find a way to juggle three Christmas get-togethers has been an interesting event over the last few years. This year we sat down with our families early to make a game plan. Right now the plan is that we are having Christmas eve here at our house with just our kids, then Christmas day we will spend with my family and that night we will drive to his parents, stay the night and have the celebration with them the next morning. It was a huge relief for me to be able to set it up this way and I feel that everyone will enjoy the days more since we won’t be so rushed.

I am really looking forward to Christmas Eve at home with my kids this year. Our plan is to make cookies and candy in the afternoon, haveĀ  a nice dinner, go to candle light service and then come home and let the kids open their gifts from us. After that we will snuggle in on the couch, watch a Christmas movie and then get ready for bed. I plan on having the gift from Santa ready and waiting when they wake up in the morning.
