Stained Diapers Receive Reprieve From a Michigan Winter!

We’ve had a break from the bitter cold here – though the snow is on it’s way again as I type – and yesterday the universe aligned properly and I had both time and the realization that I should sun the diapers while I could. I know the weather doesn’t need to be warm, or even particularly sunny, but I dislike freezing diapers so nicer weather is my preference.

It also ocurred to me yesterday that  all I needed to do was hike my foldable dryer rack (if you don’t have one of these and use covers – GET ONE ASAP! They are cheap and wonderful.  I think mine can hold something like 30 pockets at once) to the deck and leave the diapers out there for a few hours. This time of year it takes much longer to get stains out, but works just as effectively.

Some people suggest sunning diapers in the front window of a car in the winter, but I’ve never had any luck with that.  My guess would be that my windshield is coated with a UV protectant like my home windows are, and while they certainly aid in efficiency for heating and cooling costs, they don’t help a lady sun her diapers.

If you’re in the mood to sun away some stains today, don’t forget that diapers need to be damp for things to really work well.  It’s amazing the difference some sunning can make!

Love your little jot here – i have heard freezing diapers can lead to broken elastic which is bad ! and i got a really nice stainless steal drying rack off ebay for 22 f/sh !!!
I have a few diapers needing some sun but i try to use fleece liners every change.
we are in MI too – near Toledo boarder:)

I also am in Mich and sunned my diapers at the last washing….it worked wonders on the stains but I brought them in a little too soon (even though it was 2 days on the line), not all the moisture was out as I smell a mildewy scent when I open the diaper cupboard I keep them in…make sure they are completely dry, even if you have to run them in the dryer for 10 min. Thanks for posting!
