I LOVE swaps. Even though K pl’d almost 2 years ago, I’ve hung around DS, mostly for the swaps.
I think my favorite swap in the “Everything Swap.” It runs every other month, and it’s like a round robin swap. In other words, you send the same about as you receive, but you don’t necessarily send to the same people you’re receiving from. Everyone posts their lists of what they’re in search of (ISO) and what they have available for trades (IHA) and the trade values (price). I swear it’s like Christmas going through all the lists picking what you’re interested in! Plus, it’s a great way to “recycle” things you don’t use, in trade for things you need. A lot of times there are WAHMs offering custom knitting, crocheting, and sewing services as well!
The Secret Sister swap is my other favorite. You post a list of things you like and things you don’t like. You get assigned a secret sister, and ship 3 separate packages to her, revealing yourself with the last one. This is great fun, getting all sorts of surprises in the mail!
Right now, I’m signed up for the Everything Swap, the Expecting Mama swap (even though we’ll be starting ttc-ing next month), the Crafty Mama swap, and we just finished up the Back to School and Sewing swaps.
In the past, we’ve done:
*T-shirt swap-all wahm or embellished t shirts
* Diaper swap-you can sign up for specific brands or types of diapers you’d like to receive, and what you have to send. You can also make or buy new to send to your partner.
*Play food swap-everyone sends a certain number of pieces of play food to the host, who then splits them up and ships back an assortment of everyone else’s wares
*Yarn for woolies swap-You send double the yarn to a worker. Half the amount is for what you choose to be knit or crochet, and the other half is payment for the work, and they send you back the finished item.
Obviously, there are swaps for all kinds of mamas! There are rules set in place, with specific timelines, so that no one gets loses out or gets scammed. The mamas that are “regulars” are always more than willing to lend a helping hand and explain things if you get confused. They’re really a great group of women!
I think I may be a swap addict. I guess it could be worse. No one tell my family; I don’t want an intervention. Have you participated in any swaps here on DS? If you’ve never partaken in the fun, go get approved, and get your swap on!
