Chris and I had been slacking on making sure we took a date night each week. We used to do it all the time but we have been busy with kids, house stuff and we just had not been taking the time we should. We had fallen into a routine, get the kids to bed, do a couple more things around the house and then Chris would usually play a video game while I would read or get on the computer. I made a couple of comments about how we needed to get back into having our date nights but we both just did not make the effort.
I started getting a little sad after this had been going on for awhile. I was feeling a little lonely in the evenings and I wanted more of Chris’ attention. One night I made a point of telling him how I was feeling and we had a long talk about it. We both decided that we needed to make the effort. While he was content to play a game and have a casual conversation, he admitted that he missed the date nights we used to do as well.
The following weekend we started our date night back up. I rented a movie we both wanted to see ( Lincoln ), bought some snacks for us to share and we spend the evening together snuggled on the couch. It was wonderful. We both enjoyed it so much that we did the same thing the next night ( this time we watched Le Miserables ).
We are going to make sure that we do this once a week from now on. Once and awhile we will find a babysitter and actually go out for an evening but mostly we will do our at home date nights. There are countless fun at home date ideas out there. A few our favorite are movie nights, baking a special treat together and then sharing it or playing cards or board games together.
