The Importance of Family

I come from a family of five with a very large extended family. I was very attached to my parents and siblings when I was a child. Growing up I loved spending as much time  as I could with all of my family members. We moved six hours away from my extended family when I was seven so I did not get to spend as much time with them as I would have liked. We would go back and visit several times a year and I always enjoyed those times.

Now that I am grown up I am still very close to my parents and siblings. I also still really like spending time with my extended family. I really do not get to see my extended family very often. I can not take trips to Wisconsin as much as I would like due to the cost of gas and it is harder to take the trips now that I have four young children of my own. Some of my extended family does come to Iowa once and awhile.

My mom and sister are among my closest friends. We spend a lot of time together. My sister actually bought the house next door to us when she got married. It is nice having her so close. We are able to help each other with babysitting, yard work and a lot more.  My brother moved back to Wisconsin ( it is where we were born ) so I have not been able to spend as much time with him. We still talk and text fairly often.

My kids are proving to be a lot like I was when I was a kid. They love spending time with their extended family. Right now they have two ( soon to be three) cousins, one ( soon to be two ) on my side and one on Chris’. Jack ( Chris’ brother’s son ) is a couple years older then Alex and then have become very close. They love playing together and visiting with each other. Jack lives a few hours away from us so we can not see him as much as Alex would like but we try to see him once a month or so. My sister has Jonathan and she is pregnant with second. Jonathan is only a year old but the kids all love him. It is really cute to watch them play together. Amelia and Jonathan have become really close.

Family is very important to me and I want to teach my children that same importance. I am really happy that my family is close.

Here is my parents, sister, nephew, cousin, her daughter and my family last fall when my cousin came to visit us –
