DS has a pink flakey spot on his left temple and little on the bridge of his nose. I thought it was the remnants of his cradle cap but I'm not so sure anymore since it hasn't gone away but the cradle cap is all cleared up.
So this morning I noticed a rashy looking area on his leg which looks similar to the patches on his head. There is the spot pictured and another spot on the back of the leg where the diaper would be at the thighs.
It looks like it might be eczema, but it just popped up on the leg today. Perhaps it's from the elastic in the dipe (he wears fluffymail Night Lights to bed). I really don't know what to make of it. TMI probably but his penis is red on top, too, which makes me think rash.
I've had him back in sposies AGAIN today but it doesn't seem to be helping much.
I hate to take him to the doctor for this but it looks really weird. DD never had anything like this.
Man, I feel so bad for my little boy. He battles with reflux every day and now this.

My DD gets that around her legs in serged diapers. She also has eczema and what I beleive to be a milk allergy. Though her allergy to milk showed on her trunk. I would try and keep him out of serged diapers for a few days and see if it clears up.
As for the head looks like dry skin maybe? I would just put some cream on it

That looks pretty similar to my kids eczema. I would use some Eucerin or Cetaphil on it for now and ask about it at your next Dr. visit. Love the squished cheeks pic! :giggle:

BTW - that is DH's thumb in that last pic. He just got off of work. Ew. My fingers are nice clean ones in the first pic.
Ok, DS is definitely sensitive to dairy. I have to maintain a milk protein free diet or he gets really sick.
Hmmm...I don't have any T&T dipes (besides one Little Beetle ONE) because they dont' really fit him around the legs very well. I guess I'll keep him in sposies and see if it clears up.
If it's eczema, is it going to get really bad? I know nothing about eczema.

eucerin is a thick moisturiser, you can get it in any supermarket or pharmacy. you want the one in the tub, its the consistency of crisco. very greasy and heavy but it works wonders on excema.
hope that helps!

Any drugstore or Walmart/Target. Walmart has a generic version of the cetaphil. It's just super moisturizing cream or lotion for sensitive skin. It might not clear it up but should help to hold you over. Sometimes I use Aquaphor healing ointment when it gets really dry. HTH!

It might it may not. Lily only gets it in "trouble" areas. behind the legs back of arms things like that. I would still try and use less serged diapers b/c that seems to irritate her eczema more. She usually gets it (just like that in the picture) bad if shes either been in serged diapers to long or had some sort of milk product.

If he is nursing, take a Fish, flax and borage oil supplement 3x daily. The baby will get the EFAs through your breastmilk. Also, the toadally tender cream from London Frogg is great stuff. the best thing for eczema is to soak the child in lukewarm water for 10 minutes a day, and while their skin is still wet, put a really good cream -- like the toadally tender, pure shea butter (Too Shea available at bath & body works) or Burt's bees coconut foot cream. Eucerin has mineral oil in it which at the end of the day is drying.
My four year old has eczema so bad that her skin cracks and bleeds and it keeps her awake at night. The above at least stop the bleeding.
Do not use Eledil (the prescription cream) as it has an FDA black box warning about it's potentially causing leukemia.

I just wanted to second what cwieberdink said. Your DS's rash looks just like my YDSs eczema. His is directly related to allergies. He is bf, and as soon as I eat any nut oil (sunflower, peanut, possibly safflower) or egg product, he gets bright red on his cheeks, and eventually later in the day, rough rashes on his chest. His hands are constantly red and rough, but that is because he chews on them, so the saliva is aggravating the eczema.
Also, if it is cold and dry out, his cheeks get worse. Before I figured out the allergy component, it got really bad on his diaper area (front and back), face, his chest and chin, behind his ears, and along the backs of his arms. I also noticed that his cradle cap is affected by it too. If I eat something bad, he gets the eczema, and then cradle cap a few days later.
The worst thing, his doctor told me that most babies get eczema, and it isn't due to anything, just put eucerin on him. Well, eucerin has mineral oil, and doesn't help YDS. I use the cetaphil and vanicream on him after every bath.
I have to watch "natural" lotions and creams too, because a lot of them use shea nut and he is allergic to that.
Good luck!

Well my kiddos have eXc but we had and still somwhart are battling a weird thing in our house with our son and it looks EXACTLY LIKE THAT. And you know what it is... yeast bacteria! I am currently treating my whole house withe Oregacyn to kill all the bad bacteria in our bodies. Adam's rash has gone away though from using Pau D'arco (which is what I use fir my kids for eXc anyway) but along with taking the tonice internally I used it straight on the rash as well and that cleared it up within 14 hours! You can go to the store and get Pau D'arco tea and make some tea- let it cool off and put the tea on the rash.
My friend in CA, her daughter had the same type of rash and at first they thought it was just baby acne and then eXc and it turned out to be yeast bacteria.
Anyway you could try the tea- you drink it and make some to wipe your babe off with and see what happens!...Minda

The third picture looks like excema for sure.. Not sure about the other two. I recommend a dermatologist!!! My daughter had excema starting around 6-7 months old and our pedi would just keep trying different meds on her without getting to the real reason behind it. I went to a dermatologist and he helped me SO much more!

another think Laneylue... on Adam he got it on his leg in the same spot as the one you have shown and then his penis too turned bright red and eventually the actual rash.
Also seeing it that it was yeast i did try Lotrim because I had it here but it didn't clear it up. Whereas the Pau D'Arco knocked the thing clear out of the water! That was a few week ago by the way that we were dealing with that.
He has a bit of a repeat flare up- came back a little once I started the Oregacyn- which I anticipated happening as the yeast and bacteria fight to stay alive as you try to kill it. I can take some pics tmw if it would help you. I need to go get some more tea but haven't made it down to the health food store yet. I really like Pau D'arco in general and my red heads drink a lot of it due to their sensitive skin- besides the tea is wayyyy cheap compared to the tonic.
I did make an Oregano wash for him today and that also helped but I am treating him with that internally too...
Anyway there ya go!...

Thank you so much every body!
I did try to reintroduce dairy into my diet last week but by last Saturday he was completely miserable, vomitting constantly, crying and not sleeping so I cut the dairy out again. He has greatly improved but I'm wondering if that didn't trigger this.
It's so hard to tell what this is because there are just so many possibilities!
I'll take him to the doc for sure if it doesn't improve, but I'll try some of your suggestions this weekend until we can get in.

It worked so well on my son's eczema, and soothed rough dry patches much better than cetaphil or eucerin in my experience. Plus it's easy to find (got mine at our local grocery store) and it smells very soothing.

peds always suggest the Aquaphor for skin issues. Works wonders and almost right away. Try that or some of the other suggestions above as that will help it from being irritated and have the rubbed raw, flakey look and pain to it.
FWIW, sposies may rub that area on his leg worse then serged diapers I dunno. Seems to me that the paper would irritate it. I'd deff coat that area good so that helps protect it from rubbing.

Aww you're little man sounds just like my little guy.....reflux first then milk intolerance and eczema before we figured out the milk thing.
Big :hugs: :hugs: being a reflux Mommy is tough!! I think that if you did try dairy that it could be from that. I noticed when I would slip once and awhile that Jackson would break out in spots too like that plus he would puke like crazy. He didn't outgrow the milk intolerance until he was 18 months....but it was like right about 18 months it got better and so did his reflux :lostit: .....is your little guy on something for reflux....
Uh oh ds is up.....but I second the Aquaphor!!

Looks like my sons eczema. What I've found works the best for him is cetaphil every day, every time the area is exposed (so, diaper changes or bathroom breaks - oldest is pt'd). My boys usually flare up on their bottom first and then spreads to their trunk. And what we like the best is the cetaphil waterless cleanser, but the lotion works too.

Our son had reflux and now has the same issues with his hands and the back of his legs. He is lactose intolerant and has a latex allergy. That's how I ended up with cloth in the first place. I'd seond the lotrim cream. If the area that is affected is moist all the time yeast can grow. I've had luck with yeast creams and with aqaphor.
:hugs: to you and your sweet baby boy! Reflux is no fun and now this. So sorry.

My son has severe eczema...it's BAD. He's currently taking three different prescription creams, not seeing a whole lot of improvement, though. I am a little disappointed with his derm, not really even asking about what he's eating, etc...now he's even more suspect since he tried to sell me microdermabrasion service (for me) while at my son's appt!!!
Can someone PM me about the supplements mentioned above???
Thanks

I am a little surprised that I am the only one who uses homeopathic ways to treat eXc.
Not only does the natural stuff work but its sooo much better for your body. ~happy2Bamommy~ actually knows a lot about this kind of stuff and would be a great person to contact on here.
We use Pau D'Arco and so haven't ever tried any other homeopathic stuff since that works for us. But there are several things out there (by the way Pau D also has a cream)
Also many times, especially with sever eXc you need to treat other things as well- things many DRs don't think of like... digestive problems, the way the body is absorbing and disposing toxins in his body, bacteria, yeast, different types of bacteria and yeast as they can evolve, treating mom and baby (or in our case right now our whole household!) etc. These are things that rubbing a chemically made cream onto the skin is not going to fix. It may keep it at bay, but it is not solving the problem.
Besides the fact that many of the homeopathic stuff are just plain in general GOOD FOR YOU! For instance Pau D'arco is also used for... a wide range of conditions including pain, arthritis, inflammation of the prostate gland (prostatitis), fever, dysentery, boils and ulcers, and various cancers, to treat or prevent a number of conditions, including candidiasis (a yeast infection of the vaginal or oral areas), herpes simplex virus, influenza, parasitic diseases such as schistosomiasis, bacterial infections such as brucellosis, and inflammation of the cervix (cervicitis) or the vagina (vaginitis). Pau d'arco may also reduce inflammation of the joints associated with arthritis. Etc etc etc.
I am glad that sooo many of you have found something that works so well for your little ones but I did want to bring up another area of treating eXc as it has not been discussed or even brought up and it may help!

I was going to say the same thing about Eucerin & Aquafor...they may seem to help in the short term, but long term they actually reduce the moisture amount in teh skin (this has been proven). I found that Neutrogena Sensitive Skin lotion, Aveeno lotion and Northern Essence Body butters work really well for my kids. AVoid mineral oil & heavy fragrances. :)

I use the Aveeno baby soap and Aveeno lotion on my DD. Eczema is actually a form of asthma. Sometimes it develops into asthma and sometimes it just stays with the skin. Sometimes totally goes away.
