We are expecting our second baby in November, and I am determined to EC from the start this time. We started with our DD at about 5 months and things were going pretty well, but then we moved and ....well...that was that.

Anyhow, I have done a lot of research about EC, but one thing I want to ask is what carrier everyone liked for EC. We are a baby wearing family, and my DD spent the first four months of her life in a Moby and still spends a lot of time in the Ergo. I am thinking that the Moby might be a little cumbersome for EC, though? We have a Kangaroo Korner fleece pouch that I bought when DD was basically too big to use it (24 pounds) and I'm excited to use it for a newborn. It seems as though a simple pouch sling like that might be the way to go, but I'm just wondering what other people's experience was.

I think the moby is great- I had a sleepy wrap which I think is similar and she wouldn't pee in it at all. I usually use a sling, though, because it is so easy to get her in and out of it.

I had a sling and a mei tai. Used them both and loved them! but...didn't ever have a chance to compare them to anything else, so I'm probably not much help to you. :goodvibes:

My babe lived in the Moby for her first 3 months of life. We didn't do EC back then, but it was a favorite carrier for in and out wearing. DD didn't care for the sling AT ALL.

My two cents: the kind of carrier shouldn't have bearing on the ec factor... You get used to whatever you have and can adapt to your needs. But i definitely pay more attention when I am holding my ds. It's just icing that you have options! I personally use a variety as well. My arsenal includes: ergo, homemade mei tai, hip hammock, and a loop like sling... The name escapes me. Go for comfort! And fun!

thanks for your input! I guess I'll just have to buy a few more carriers so I can experiment with what works best...bummer:giggle:

if it's a newborn I recommend the moby. It's really easy to get my DS in and out of it. I think getting the moby ON is a pain, but once I wear it, it's easy to get him in.out, etc. We don't EC right now but I am considering it. DS will have his crying fits and i figured out today it is right before he pees. he was having one of his fits IN the carrier and then he peed on me in the store. He peed thru the wool, etc. onto my shirt, ON the wrap AND it drips onto the FLOOR! He's 5 weeks! I can't imagine he can hold that much pee. LOL but I guess if I had taken him out when he fussed, held him over the pot he would be much more content. AND my shirt woudl be dry.lol

With newborns, they will hold it while you are wearing them and need to go once you take them out. So just be ready to slip baby out of any carrier you use at least once an hour to potty them. Babies don't want to pee on their mommies! You'll get into a rythm!! It'll be great. :)

Seriously!? That just sounds too good to be true!! Can't wait to EC with the new LO...seriously, so excited. Haha. I'm excited about peeing and pooping....no wonder my friends think I'm a nut job.

I didn't really do EC when my babies were newborns, but it is true that when I am wearing my LO's, they do not usually pee. I've taken my daughter for short walks without a diaper and she stayed dry! I find her signals MUCH easier to read when I am wearing her, because she'll start to squirm because she wants down - and it is usually because she has to pee - other than that, she WANTS to be worn or held as much as possible! :)

I really like the Boba that we just got, for the most part. It is so easy; it was expensive but works for both my LO's. I had a stretchy wrap that I used before and it is okay too, for when they are smaller (sort of like a Moby I think.) I also got a hotsling from FSOT recently and I like it, too, for wearing my LO's on my hip.

I'm planning on doing EC and wearing my NB in a moby once he's born, so I was happy to hear babies dont' like peeing on mommy. I also didn't think it was too much of a hassle to get baby in and out of moby, just unwrapping the whole thing takes awhile.

since originally posting this thread, I've become a total woven wrapaholic! I needed to carry my 25 pounder in something without a waist strap, so I started doing back carries in woven wraps. So I will definitely be using wraps with the newborn. I was excited to read that the baby might not want to pee on me in the wrap, although having to wait to wash/line dry them be a great excuse to keep buying more! haha!
