What type of health care do you use? I'm so frustrated with doctors and meds. that I could scream!:banghead: I feel like a bad parent though if I don't take the kiddos for doctor appointments all the time or do what the doctor says, but I really don't think the things they tell me are beneficial, unless it is an emergency or infection. Wondering opinions or what you all do. :headscratch:

I feel pretty much the same way you do. I really don't trust docs a whole lot, but I also have that guilt in the back of my mind if I don't take the kids in regularly. But, honestly, the dr doesn't do much at all, especially since we don't vax.
So, we have insurance through dh's work, which we can and will use if going to a doc is necessary. But, generally, I like to try alternative methods of healing, such as herbs, or just plain old sunshine, fresh air, and liquids.
I also think preventive measures are the key (hence my colon cleanse and alternatives to refined sugars threads).

We're switching to my hubby's long time family Osteopathic DR (DO) for the same reasons. It seams most modern Dr's treat the symptoms vs. finding the real problem. They're so quick to medicate. I'll call just to ask a question re: DS, and they'll say try XYZ medicine, or they'll want to write a prescription. I just wanted more natural solutions first, before trying meds. Most insurance plans cover them, and they are awesome!

I do not have much faith in the medical establishment at all. After the past week of my daughter being in the hosp.. on many drugs and being released only to become sicker then she was before we went to the hosp (less then 24 hours later).

I do not take my DC to 'well baby checks'. We do see our family chiropractor on a regular basis and more if needed.

My DD is doing much much better now that we have been working with our homeopathic/kinesiologist, and I am still beating myself for not taking her to him in the first place.. putting a hosp before what I believed in!

Tummy, :hugs: for you and your dd.

What does a chiropractor do for you? I know they adjust the bones, but I am not clear as to the other benefits.

We sometimes go to a doc just to see what is wrong and make sure it's not something serious and if it's not (most of the time) we just treat it at home. NO antibotics needed for every little sniffle for us!

Also, a cold or the flu around here is a non-issue for us as we take something at the first sensations of either one and they are gone by day 3 at the latest, infections are treated with TTO and/or GSE, eye infections with Similicon eye drops for pink eye and everything else with natural/homeopathic remedies that work BETTER and FASTER than conventional medicines.

So, we do have reg. medical docs but we also have a natural doc as well and she is wonderful!

I'd have to drive 3 hours to see a naturopath dr so we see a regular one. However the girls go once a year for their annual appointments(dr's don't do vax's here and we avoid the places that do the vax's like the plague). I go for my annual appointment and if my meds need messing/refilling or I am trying to get answers(which I don't get). This is 1-2 times a year. There is 1 chiro that I know of in town who is trained in homeopathic medicine and I just need to make an appt with him.

Basically we go to the dr when we're well but never when we're sick.lol It confuses alot of mainstream people.

I did take my dd into the hospital due to a dog bite a couple months ago. I only did it to get the dog reported.

DD hardly ever goes to the doc, unless she needs a physical for camp or something.

I go rarely, ever since they had me on anti-seizure meds and and narcotics for migraines...I got fed up (and it wasn't working)...took myself off all of it, and went to a chiropractor & masseuse. 3 years later...still pain (and med) free.

I do go for preventative screenings, my mom died of colon cancer at 58...so I know that I need to stay on top of things. I also go to my OB (I'm pregnant), but combine his info with alternative and homeopathic remedies...I rarely take the meds that he says are safe, but do of course take pre-natals and my omega supplements. I also went to him for surgery for Endo after other TTC methods failed.

DH goes for bi-annual check-ups for his heart because he had a heart attack at 34 (scary!). He does take meds, but we are really selective about which ones...but it is all approved by his doc. He's had the most success with diet & exercise...which he was pretty much doing anyway, but hadn't done before we were married in his bachelor pizza, beer, and smoking days.

Alternative. No docs or hospitals unless needed for an emergency. We do chiro every once in awhile and the dentist twice a year and thats it. My boys are 9 and 10 and haven't seen a doctor in 4 years and my girls have never seen one. They are 3 almost 2 and 10weeks. Since we do not vax, and no one has been seriously hurt no need to go.:goodvibes:

we're on good ole tricare (military), so I only go when it's Tony's well baby appt. (just cause I'm curious as to what he weighs etc) and the only other time he's been there is when he was throwing up constantly, he had the flu. I've only been there for giving birth (I am high risk) and when I fell down the stairs. dh has been there numerous times for being shocked at work lol.

Ooh, I kinda miss military insurance. My ex was in the AF and when my ds needed hydrocele surgery, it cost us like, nothing I think. And then I had my dd for $25!!

Sorry that was off topic.

I've worked in hospitals and family practices and honestly, I'm not too keen on docs either. they have their place....and that's where I like to keep them. I honestly thought people never went to the ER unless it was for an emergency....silly me! I start working for a family practice and people go to the ER for sinus infections, stubbed toes..whatever!

We didn't have a lot of money growing up so herbal stuff was what was given to me. I was extremely healthy and never went to the hospital or doc once my shots were up to date. Never went to the dentist either unless something was bothering me.

We are now doing the same with our ds. Husband was brought up the same way so that's a good thing...he's supportive on keeping mainstream medical care in it's place.

We go as needed. We vax, but on a slower schedule and I'm always late for well visits, but my kids are where they should be. I'm sick of doctors, but my pediatrician borders on a homeopath (when I get the one I want.)
