I've been trying to choose a carrier for weeks now..
We are going to Disney soon and I need something to help carry my big and clingy toddler.
At 17 months she is tall about 32 inches and 28 lbs.
My question is.. how is the new beco gemini for bigger toddlers?
I almost bought the babyhawk oh snap but my DD really prefers the hip carry..and I would like to use the backpack carry. So the beco looks like it would be exactly what I need.
I know she will probably outgrow it shortly as far as the weight limit.. but I would plan to use the beco for our next baby.
Any thoughts on the new beco?

You could try that OR you could try to find a Beco 4th Generation on FSOT (I, er, might even be selling one ;))--it has much of the same functionality as the Gemini (for your purposes) but a higher weight limit. :) I think www.paxbaby.com has a stash of 4Gs too, if you PM her (she's paxbaby on here).

I tried the beco butterfly 2 but didn't like it because of the internal panel.. I really like the freedom of the gemini.
I would have liked to buy one used but we need it by the weekend..since I waited until the last minute the only place that can deliver this quickly is amazon.

i havn't tried the hip carry as i use it for my younger ds, but i did put my 30# ds1 in it one day and he loved it
i do carry ds2 in it often and it's quickly moving up in rank as my #1 pic..very comfortable and evenly distributed wieght well so you can carry for a long time

So you do know that the weight limit is 35#s... but it is an excellent and VERY comfortable carrier for older babies! I'd recommend it with full confidence that you and your little one will love it! The hip carry is a bit incongruous however, if you can train her to get used to the back carry, you will both be happy!

The 4G is different than the Butterfly. It's MUCH more like the Gemini--kind of a MT with buckles.

So, by now everyone knows that I sinnnng the praises of my favorite SSC - the Beco Gemini. I have a 18 mos old and use the Gemini with him. He's about the weight of yours. He's my third, but my second son was a TANK up until 18 mos and the slowed down and didn't get to 35 lbs until he was 3 1/2, so there could be lots and lots of use for the Beco Gemini for yours. I wore mine the other day for THREE HOURS straight at the aquarium and was super comfy.

For me, an important criteria for a toddler carrier is the base width of the carrier. The wider the base, the more supported babies legs are and the less pull on Mama's shoulders too. I have no idea on the measurement of this carrier, I have heard the base is adjustable though. I'd be interested in the max width measurement.

Gabbie, the official measurement from Beco for the widest setting of the front panel is 11 inches at the base! For comparison sake, since I know you are a Beco mama ;), the Butterfly is 13 inches!!!!
Does it still say that on their site? I know I called to have them edit it, because it's actually exactly 13 inches at the base for both the Gemini AND the BBII. The 11 inches is at the narrowest part of the body on the Gemini. At the base it's 13 inches (like the BBII).
Here's a video breaking down the parts of the Gemini and also comparing with the parts of the BBII.
