what do you do when your preemie is developmentally ready for something but too small??? malakai is 4 months and loves to stand/bounce all day but at 9ish pounds is too small for the jumperoo, exersaucer, etc. we are at the point where is is awake/alert quite a bit and at times i have to put him down(like to cook) and the swing just isnt cutting it anymore. he cant even reach the toys and doesnt want to lay down???? my happy baby is bored:cry:

When my dd was doing the same but too small to reach the bottom of the exersaucer hubby put some phone books underneath for her to stand on. Worked great!

your girls were pretty tiny too weren't they? I remember them being teeny at birth but I thought they both stayed pretty little and grew slowly.

We padded the seat all around with rolled receiving blankets and added folded blankets underneath when our little guy started showing interest and was still way too teeny.

I don't have a preemie but I read this and thought would offer a little experience. Have you tried a doorway jumper. The work better for smaller babies sometime. I used one an a 4 month old 10lb baby I baby sat. Just a thought.

Have you seen the Merry Muscles? It fits from 10lbs!
eta: we just got it for my 3 month olds and they love it :)
It is spendy, but sounds like it would be worth it in your case, too!

JoAnna, it sounds like we are in the same boat. My son was supposedly due May 21,2010 but was born May 5 at what they figured was 34 weeks. He was 6.1 at birth and when I took him home form NICU 2.5 weeks later he was 5.2 lbs. Now at 5 months he has just hit the 10 lb mark and its been a struggle to get him there.
we are having a few developmental issues but nothing major and our biggest issues are finding toys age appropriate that aren't too big for him.

DS was not early, but had a lot of growth issues due to open heart surgery at birth.
He LOVED the jump-a-roo...I would put a pillow or 2 under him so his feet touched, and rolled recieving blankets around him.
