I got my freehand today and it is beautiful! I'm not sure I'm using it right though, so I'm seeking help. My dd is 6 weeks old. She's 10 lbs and 21 in. When I was in a store today that sold babyhawks, I asked them for advice and the girl said to tie it behind the baby's back. I thought I had read that it was bad to do that though, and that they were supposed to be tied under the butt. Which is correct? Also, is she old enough/big enough to put her feet out the sides, or should I try to keep them in? I put her in it with her feet in and she didn't seem very happy. Please help! I really want to wear her in it! :)

Yes at her age you do want to tie it behind her back for better back/torso support. When she is bigger with better torso support then you can tie under the bum. She is too young to have both legs out without narrowing the bottom the the carrier. Some mamas use a hair tie to squeeze the bottom of the panel narrower. You may be able to do 1 leg in and 1 leg out pr turn her a bit sideways. usually they are ready for both legs out somewhere from 4 1/2-6 months.

When their legs are inside the carrier (froggy legged), it needs to be tied up high and behind the back so that the baby doesn't fall out the sides of the carrier. Enjoy your new Freehand!

Yay! LOVE FH's for wee babies! Yes! If you don't tie it behind their back, they will just squish down in a little ball in the bottom of the carrier...they need the support until their bones develop a little more! Have fun babywearing!

Ok, so I tried this last night, let me know if it is okay. I put her in with her legs froggied, wrapped the straps around her back, then tied them behind my back. I'm pretty small, so the straps are REALLY long. Is that going to be a good/safe way to carry her? Thanks!
