If the PO lost it for sure then I would offer replacement or refund.

Yes, I think you should definitely be entitled to a replacement or refund.

I agree that you should be entitled to a replacement or refund. I have had 1 package get lost before, I ended up giving the mama a partial refund and then a replacement worth the other 1/2. It worked out great.

I think a partial refund is fair. Why should the seller be out the product and then money. If this is an issue. THe buyer needs to start buying insurance on purchases. I hate the PO for being so careless. I think partial is fair because both parties are losing out.

I would think this would be an invitation to scam people, though. It's easy to say "yeah I sent it" but not really, and then keep half the money. All sellers should probably get dc (speaking to myself here too, since I rarely do).

DC means nothing. I had a package with dc on it. It got lost. The po lost it. Half the time the mailman does no scan them and then it is useless. If you want to be insured your package gets there you would have to buy insurance.

I think it depends on the mama, if its someone who you think is shady or kinda had a bad feeling from the get go then chances are you are right and they prolly never sent it i would demand a full refund then. if its a trustworthy mama that has good feedback and no one has had issues, and it clearly seemes a mistake not on her part. I would be fine with a partial refund espically if she had proof or what not that it was sent.

I think buyers are entitled to a full refund. I say this because I always use paypal and paypal holds the seller responsible until that item arrives. When you use paypal, you agree to paypal's rules.

So you are saying that if I bought something from you(let's say $50.00) and I do not get it, YOU are responsible for refunding me $50.00 even if the post office lost your package and I opted out of buying insurance?? So you (the seller) would be out the products and $50.00. A total loss of $100.00 for you the seller. If that is the case we should all be requiring buyers to purchase insurance which will make the cost of the diaper go up even more.

According to paypal. yes the seller is responsible. Paypal doesn't allow a seller to keep the money when the product isn't delivered. I always use delivery confirmation and I insure packages over a certain amount. I've never had anything get lost. Everything I have bought or sold has made it to its destination. I honestly don't think it happens that often that packages get lost. I believe it is more likely a scam when items are supposedly lost. If you are using delivery confirmation it is easy to prove to both the buyer and seller that an item was delivered or even sent. Delivery confirmation is more important than insurance imo.

Personal experience here...I sold some books on EBAY. 3 weeks later I get the shipping label back in the mail. The items were lost in the mail. I had DC and it does not help at all. Things do get lost mamma. Not often, but they do. If the mailman does not scan the package when it is picked up there is no way of tracking it. Now the buyer had a chance to buy insurance, but opted not to. I had proof I mailed it. Even proof they made it all the way to the state she lived in. So according to paypal I would be responsible for a full refund?

Why would a buyer ever buy insurance if they know that the seller will be responsible no matter what??

ditto.. not to mention that seller have been scammed before as well. It should be up to the BUYER to purchase insurance. Not the seller. JMO.

I'm kind of agreeing with this.
It's a huge PITB to have to buy insurance with every purchase. I mean, it adds like over a dollar to the selling price. I realize it would be worth it if the package got lost, but that just hardly ever seems to happen. It's never happened to me, and I've done probably 150 or so transactions like this, including ebay.
I was almost in this situation. A mama sent me something she made, but after two weeks it didn't show. She offered to make me a new one, but I said I would wait a few more days. The next day she said it was returned to her and that she had the wrong address. Only when I confirmed my address, she said that's the one she used, so it was strange that she got it returned to her. I don't know, I guess the PO does weird things sometimes. She's resending it tomorrow, so hopefully it will turn out ok this time.

Which stinks if your the seller who DID send the item(s).
. Paypal doesn't allow a seller to keep the money when the product isn't delivered.
How is that fair when or if the seller send the item? sigh...
I always use delivery confirmation and I insure packages over a certain amount.
Which is a really really good idea.

You better knock on wood, mama!!
Everything I have bought or sold has made it to its destination. I honestly don't think it happens that often that packages get lost. I believe it is more likely a scam when items are supposedly lost.
When I first started selling.. I worked a trade with a mama that insisted that her part didn't arrive.. even after a month. I DID send the item. I ended up sending her pp for the value of the trade and hated every minute of it.
If you are using delivery confirmation it is easy to prove to both the buyer and seller that an item was delivered or even sent. Delivery confirmation is more important than insurance imo.
Actually.. sellers could print a label and the buyer get a DC# emailed yet the seller doesn't even have it in the mail. I think BOTH are equally important.
Not knit-picking your post, you just had some good points!

This is a tough one imo.. I have been on both ends. I bought an item on another forum and never received it and was issued a full refund by the mama. Then I shipped something to Canada and buyer said did not receive so I issued a full refund... Turns out I was scammed by that buyer and never compensated for the refund I gave her.:banghead:
Now, I try to do business only with mamas I am friendly with on the forums or mamas that I know have lots of excellent feedback!
It's hard when you are put in this situation as a seller or a buyer because it becomes an issue of trust!!!! Can I trust the mama and take their word??? Also what should be done to compensate?? I guess 50% would help recoup the loss and as long as I trusted the mama I would be fine with it!!!

For my own peace of mind, I'd feel I have to refund (or replace the item for) the customer because they paid for an item they didn't get. I'm always bothered when I see 'I'm not responsible for this item once it leaves my hands' posted on eBay auctions. I can't help but think "What kind of customer services is THAT?" If you're doing this as a business, you're doing yourself a favor going above-and-beyond for that person, as you may have a repeat customer AND word-of-mouth for what you did will help you to reap the rewards of being a good businessperson.
If it happened to me several times, I might rethink my business practices and start to question whether or not I'm getting scammed. Until then, I stand by my product/service and feel it says a lot about my character...even if it DOES make me want to throw up, knowing that lost money means no food in our fridge (which is exactly what that WOULD mean for my family right now.)

hmm i dont ask for a refund.. but i only buy from people who i trust. a few times i had to wait 2 mo's but it did show. one time the WHAM refunded me without my asking. then the package arrived and i repaid her..
i really didnt feel it was her fault. and felt bad even that she refunded me money for dipes that i was sure she mailed. i mean that is the risk of online buying...
i would be very sad if one of my items got lost and then i had to repay the seller. because then i would be out money as well..

The DC said it was delivered? Weird. Could it have been stolen out of your mailbox?
I think that DC is good if the buyer/seller want piece of mind. Like if I shipped something and the buyer claimed they didn't get it, I could just check. If it said they did, I probably wouldn't refund. If I was waiting on a package and it never came, I could check the DC just to verify that it was shipped (well, most likely shipped) and I wasn't scammed by the seller. If the item was cheap enough, I would probably do a refund. If not, I would have probably insured it to begin with. I bought a MT from a momma and never got it...it was lost in the mail. She refunded all of my $ but I only wanted her to refund half since it was neither of our faults. So, I ordered another, more expensive, carrier and had insurance put on it. Hopefully, it will be here tomorrow! The whole refund thing could be debated indefinitely. Like if you get an item and want a refund but the seller wants it back first, who should pay for return shipping? I think if it was a listing error on the sellers part, they should pay. If the buyer just didn't want it (wrong size, etc), it should be a refund minus return shipping and regular shipping.

Sandy...I am definitely not calling you a liar! I hope you didn't think that! I am just saying that it's possible that it could have been stolen from your box. You are a trustworthy person and I would definitely check someones feedback before I thought they were not telling the truth. For all you know, the postman could have scanned it and lost or kept it(or left it at the wrong house). You never know! Sorry if you thought I meant you could be lying!

Thanks! I felt bad cuz I didn't want you to think that! My postman says that if they have DC on them, they have to scan them right before they leave them in the box. Hopefully, it will get returned! I am starting to really NOT like the PO! They have been ,essing with my stuff here lately!
