We would like to start using low or no VOC paint, but are wondering what available options there are besides the milk paint? For example, is there anything available that you could easily get at a hardware store or Home Depot?

most companies have something in their product lines now. We have used Sherwin Williams Harmony (0 VOC) in most of our house and it has held up pretty well.

Mythic - has a 0 voc base & 0 voc tints

when you go to get your paint be sure to make sure the tints are 0 voc too. some paints claim to be 0 voc, but really just the bases are.

I just called Benjamin Moore, and they now have the Natura line, which is 100% 0 VOC, even when tinted (tints for this line are 0 VOC.) :lostit:

Price is $73/gallon... which is a bit high, but for 0 VOC it is worth my peace of mind.

they have low/no VOC paint at Home Depot! Just ask about it. It is not insanely expensive from what I remember.

If you decide to go w/ California

DH says the California no voc tints are very new & you should contact them directly, so they can tell you which of their retailers have the new tints (not everyone does yet).

here is how to find a list of places that carry Mythic in & around SF. I did a quick search & there are a bunch

DH works for Sherwin and says that Sherwin is the company that makes Benjamin Moore paints. That seems very spendy. He also made a good point that there are other harmful chemical in the paint besides the VOC level. You need to do your research into what they used to replace the VOC ingredients. O VOC doesn't always equate safe.

True true. Would love to hear the end product of someone's research.
