View Full Version : My first knit shorties! Also my first dye job!

Here are the shorties that I just finished with some fisherman's wool dyed with koolaid. They turned out better than I though, but I don't like the way I did the cuffs, but hey, they will be unique!

I didn't even need 12" circulars either! I was able to do the legs on 16" so I guess having a child with thunder thighs works out great! LOL

And an action shot...excuse the cousin it hair... I hadn't put it up yet and it is hot here so she was refusing to wear a shirt! LOL

The doodle pants pattern with a couple modifications that I can't even remember now! :banghead:

Those look AWESOME for your first try - I won't show you mine.... mainly because I never finished them! :giggle:

For the cuffs, to get the garter stitch, you just need to knit and purl opposite rows. Just purling will give it the same look, but then it curls... as you know. ;)

Aha... thanks... I like the look but the curling drives me crazy. I was getting impatient to finish them so I didn't feel like doing seed stitch or anything..

Oh, and the casting off the cuffs got me too....I'm not sure that I did those right either, and there are tons of little strings inside where I tried to sew the holes closed after I did the kitchener stitch!:banghead:

Very nice!

I just finished my second pair of knit shorties. I STILL cannot figure out the kitchener stitch. I'm just doing something horribly wrong. :banghead:

Those look awesome Joy!!

I did the same thing to the cuffs. I did all purling and it curled. Ok so now I know you do knit one purl one. Thanks for the tip.

Not to hijack or anything here but Quiverfillin, kitchener isn't that bad really. I found the best directions for me here... http://knittingatknoon.com/kitchenerst.html

I printed it out and use it every single time I have to do it. You'd think eventually I could do it without the directions, but no luck so far.

Great job dying that yarn.. I love how it is pastel instead of the dark dark colors that most seem to get. I have lots of undyed sitting here that I have to figure out what colos I want to try on it. :giggle:

Those look great! And don't worry about the holes -- next time you won't have as many, and as long as you weave in the ends of your yarn, no one will ever know! :D
