Honestly I would not worry too much. He is getting everything he needs from breast milk. I would keep trying different foods and offer him a variety but some kids are just not ready when we think they "should' be.

Don't push it. Still offer, and as he grows offer finger foods as well. My son was not a fan of purees either, and he was fine. Just be suer you're not limiting the time at the breast (if breastfeeding).

I agree with the previous comments. My pediatrician always said to wait a week if they are refusing something and try again. Kids are funny, they might LOVE something one day and refuse it the next. My son is a perfect example of this. He loved peaches one day and refused them the next. You might try something sweeter (breast milk has a sweet taste) like applesauce?! My son HATED cereal, so we mix it in his fruits/veggies so he can get the iron that is in the fortified cereals. Breastmilk/formula should still be the majority of calories at this point, so don't beat yourself up! He will eat when he is hungry/ready!

Ugh, that's so frustrating! We have had similar issues with DS. Feeding has definitely been our biggest challenge with him!

We began offering food at 6mo, but he wasn't even interested until 7.5mo. From then on he loved anything we gave him (purees), but couldn't get the hang of any real food. About 10mo he went on an eating strike and then decided 2 weeks later that he wanted to start eating real food. From then on he did great. Then he hit about a year and started to become picky and at one point went back to only wanting purees :hairpull:. He's 13mo now and in the last few weeks he just started showing interest in feeding himself (with his fingers) and is starting to enjoy food again.

Anyway... all that to say that you're not alone in your frustration and your DC will likely go through many stages in the next several months. At least that's true in my experience!

So, hang in there and like other mamas said don't force, but keep offering! When DS wasn't in to food (prior to 7.5mo) I'd offer him some sort of puree several times a week. I didn't do it everyday, but maybe every other day or every third day. Eventually he just decided he was interested and it took off from there!

I like the phrase, "It's all for fun until they're one." Breastmilk or formula should still be the bulk of their diet; anything else is really just for experimentation.

DS1 never wanted anything to do with purees. Self-feeder all the way. I'd just put some safe food down on the tray while the rest of the family is eating and "ignore" him. I mean, pay close attention for safety purposes, but just let him play with the food with no guidance or help.

I agree with the play food! My ds is picky on how food is given to him. Spoons are no bueno unless I give it to him to feed himself, or let him stick his fingers in the bowl hehehehe
Though today was our second day or pureed broccoli, and he was so excited for it he grabbed the spoon from me, shoveled it in his mouth with his other hand then gave the spoon back for the next round. Its amusing to me. Have you tried other foods? I can't get him to take cereal if my life dependes on it unless its disguised in other food

My second wasn't interested in solids till 8 1/2 months (and frankly still prefers to drink his meals, lol). He just has a super touchy tummy and wasn't ready. Your LO will let you know what they can/can't handle!

My DS is the SAME WAY. He won't eat oatmeal, fruits, veggies, NOTHING. So strange to me, but I'm just taking it easy. No pressure! Anyways, baby food is expensive. I guess him not eating it will save money in the long run? LOL.

This is how my 8 mo is and then I discovered Baby Led Solids (AKA: BLW). If your library has it, you might want to check out a copy of "Baby Led Weaning". There's actually another thread on it going on right now.
