I was bored and glancing through my Marathon User Guide. In Canada is says that the maximum height for rear facing is 31.5 inches. I went on the US Britax website and there was no height max. for rear facing just for the seat in total. Is there a maximum height limit. My girls feet are barely reaching the edge of the seat, they are still on the first harness slot and Kyrra is barely over 20 pounds, plus has low muscle tone.

Is height as important as the weight limit?

good question! i think the cut off for rear facing is when the top of their head is one inch below the top of the seat. and ff when the top of the ears are level with the top of the seat. someone correct me if im wrong. you can send dsunny (one of our resident car seat techs) a pm and she will give you the right answer and the reason behind it! :lostit:

I've always understood that height guidelines for RF'ing were guidelines, not restrictions (unlike weight which is a clear limit) What's important is that the child's head is not within one inch of the top of the shell.

I should check my Canadian MA manual to see if it says the same thing, and if it does, I'll call Britax to see what they recommend. DS2 is 32 inches tall and I still have him RF'ing. He's only about 25 lbs, so I'd like to leave him RF'ing for a while if I can. He doesn't seem to mind his legs being squished, and I know RF'ing is safer.

The height guidline is 1 inch of shell above the head

Thanks for the replies. I thought it seemed a little short. I am thinking it's 32 inches seated height. Their legs are not even touching the van seats yet so I know that isn't an issue for us. All I know is that they aren't ready to be turned FF yet and neither am I.

That is great to hear you are comfortable with extended rearfacing. It sounds like they have Tons of growing room both in height and weight for the marathon. Great job though for actually reading the manual and finding someone to answer your question. We run into people at checks that have never even looked through their manuals and know nothing about their seat.
