Yay!
I have a beco and BH and few slings but I always think the ergo seems softer than the beco. I have tried on a friends and loved it even though it's the beco is supposed to be more my body type(skinny/tallish). I just found the ergo so squishy that I'm really thinking about one fsot.
shortdraw- I only got into bw with my last LO and wish I had done it sooner. Even my manly DH thought it was the best thing ever. Really the more kids you have, the more useful it is as you can easily tote little baby along while still doing your older kid/kids activities and the newborn/infant is so so happy and mostly asleep when young.
Oh- I will say my fave is a stretchy wrap(sleepy/moby) for the infant stage though and was so sad when LO got too heavy - however, sometimes in winter it can be a pain out and about(wet and windy) to wrap, even though I prewrapped before I left the house and then popped baby in, I think an ergo etc is better when out and quicker.
I'd love to hear any infant comparisons of ergo and beco if anyone has done both?
OP- what color did you get!

I so want one of these, but we don't have the money today. Maybe they will run them again in a few months.

For those of you that have Ergos will they fit a short Mom and a Tall 6 foot Dad?
Also does it take a lot of effort to get the baby in / out of them?

I looked hard at the ergos last time I was preggo, but I just couldn't afford it. I don't see it happening this time either, since we will need 3 new convertible carseats, 1 new front facing 5 point carseat/ booster, and 1 new high backed booster. Oh, and either a new set of bunk beds for SS and DS1, or toddler bed. I bought an ABC for DS2 and I like it ok (except my fat sticks out around the straps :giggle:).

The ergo is amazing. Not comparable the one you are talking about. It's the piece of baby equip I have used for 7 yrs and never put away. So comfy.

Easy to use. Not hard at all to put child in. Although the back carry requires some practice. My dh has never used it. I am 5'7.

My Beco is comparable and it would fit both Dh and I fine. Depending on your sizes you may need the waist extender ( but I am not sure how big it gets, so not trying to be insulting, but I know they sell them so people do need them sometimes)

You got a great deal! I almost got one but just recently got one off FSOT (at $30more mind you) so I couldn't justify it!

wow, good for you. i'm totally looking into this... I need something more versatile. I have a moby, but can't carry my toddler in it. I have a bjorn (i know) but again not great for toddlers and hard to adjust and we just don't use it much.
i've heard ergos aren't GREAT for shorties like myself (5'). but I would LOVE to have something I can carry a toddler on my back or a baby on the front... Anyone have any suggestions?
I've considered a mei tai carrier, I don't mind ties. Thoughts?

DH might need the extender. He is not fat or even overweight but he is broad so his waist is about 44".

We had an infantino with DS and used it ALL THE TIME but he grew out of it quick and it was REALLY uncomfortable. I have yet met anyone that owned an ergo that didn't love it so when I saw these on sale I figured I should snag one.. A carrier was on the list of things we need for the baby anyway.

I don't own one but we borrowed one for our December Disney trip when our DS was 10 months and it was AMAZING! It's actually one our list of thing to buy once I'm outta the first trimester. Even my hubby loved it, it beat all my other carriers hands down! You will not regret it trust me!

I used to teach babywearing.
I personally do not like the Ergo. I have purchased before and returned it because of the fit. Not comfortable on someone as tall as me. However, some parents LOVE them. I prefer Becos if I am going to get an SSC.
For those of you on a budget, try getting a WAHM made mei tei (I saw one mom on here who makes them for like $30 brand new). They have a similar shape but since you tie them and don't buckle, they are much cheaper. I also prefer them because they are more likely to fit a wider range of sizes. You can also get name brands (like Babyhawk) for pretty cheap on FSOT.

my DD LOVES her ergo. She gets so excited when she sees me pull it out! Best purchase I made, by far!

Also just to add my 2c Heather. I found the "used" BH to be way way comfier than the one I bought new! When you buy it new the straps are a little stiffer and you really have to break it in. I had an awesome preloved one and sold it when I got my own and have always regretted it:(
I since bought a really cool camo one with orange minky inside( it was a daddy one) and it is super soft and squishy.
Oh and the only drawback I found with the ergo is if you tend to have tall kids(I do) and of course they all lean to reach things. The beco is a higher body than ergo so after a certain age I felt that was a better choice for my leaning tall kids.
For the record I don't own an ergo, but someone was kind enough to lend me a ton of her carriers for a week to try out when my LO was about 5 months. I ended up using the babyhawk the most as it's more versatile to your indiv body and age of baby.

I agree about the used BabyHawks! Not only are they cheaper but they are definitely softer. I love them, in general. They are a local company and we used to have babywearing meetings at their store before it closed down.

WIth my first baby I got the ergo from 6 months and it was perfect! Before then we had used a bjorn type carrier which was fine for the infant stage but not so great once she started to get bigger. Then with our second i bought the infant H2H insert, and honestly did not use it much at all. I think DH used it more than I did to be honest. I really didn't like it all that much, i preferred to use a sling, or I also had a moby. Once she hit about 4 months I got a mei tai and loved it. This one is designed for smaller babies so I plan to use that from the beginning, I will probably just put a blanket inside it to provide a bit more head support etc. I STILL use my MT although not so much anymore. When I was pregnant with DD2 I used my ergo right until I was about 6 months pregnant and really couldn't do it with a belly anymore. Love the ergo. Also my DH is 6-3 and I am 5-4 and we switch between us without too much issue. He really preferred to use the ergo mainly with our second and I used either the sling or the MT. I feel bad about this but since we have been in Australia I have barely baby-worn at all. I think it is just because it has been summer and so hot and humid I just couldn't stand to have somebody on me, plus she likes to walk, and if I want to go for a walk I generally take the stroller so I can take both kids. I will probably use it in the next few months because the weather is cooler again. I had my sister's kid the other day as well who is 2, and because the baby was sleeping I stuck her in the backseat in the stroller, the 2 yo in the front seat, and I carried my 3yo in the ergo on my back! It was ridiculous, LOL! Actually the 3yo wanted to walk but I was in too much of a rush that it was easier to stick her on my back. She is only about 27lb though, so not huge for 3, but still it was surprisingly comfortable.

Lauren- you should try to get a buckle-tai. Actually mine is a buckle-tai not a mei tai, I should correct myself! It buckles around the waist but then the straps tie, so it's still pretty versatile but I feel like it is more secure and for me more comfortable than tying around my waist. The other thing about mei tais is that they do not have any padding like the SSCs, so they are awesome for rolling up and chucking in your diaper bag. Actually my avid pic is a pic of me with the MT with my sixth month old and DH with the then 2.5 yo in the ergo. We were hiking around Lassen NP in NorCal. VERY comfortable.
I got mine from My blessed baby but she is closing down her WAHM store because of the crazy baby carrier laws there are now because of those babies that suffocated in some slings. It seems like you can stil buy some that she has through anohter website on clearance. http://www.my-blessed-baby.com/ That's me on the website!! Haha, I took a pic and sent it to her and she liked it so much she used it, she is a DS mom as well.

Jen- I wore my oldest DD on my back in a SSC (not an Ergo, a WAHM one made by a friend) when she was 3 years old and weighed about 33lbs. We had been at Disneyland all day and she was tired and my other 2 were taking up all the stroller space. So, I put her on my back and she passed out! I wore her like that for a few hours and it wasn't uncomfortable at all.
I'd urge anyone to find a local babywearing group and try some carriers on. I think with so many different body types and preferences in terms of what the carriers can do, it can be hard know what will work for each individual. I am personally a Mei Tei girl. I love stretchy wraps for the newborn stage. I discovered a Mei Tei made out of a soft woven wrap (Ocah) and I am in love and now use that from newborn to toddlerhood.

With my first Egro i started using it when my son was around 4 months old which is basically when i bought it. I used it for a while before selling it on thebabywearer. I have a brand new looking one in the same color since my mom was pregnant with my little sister when i was pregnant with my son and isnt having more kids. I can't wait to use it with the new baby.

I got it this morning!! I love it! I mean... so far. I didn't get it for him but DS loves it too.. He didn't want to get out of it! He's about 35lbs and I carried him around for a good hour doing house work with no problem. It must be really cumfy for DS because he usually hates being carried.. by hand or in a front/back carrier.
I guess now I need to get an infant insert... i guess? what do you guys think? Is it really necessary?
I used the infant insert with DD until she was about 3 months. There was no way she would have safely fit in the ergo prior to that without the insert. I probably could have even used it up until 4 months.

Definitely need an infant insert if you plan on using it on a baby under 4 months old.
Also, there are babywearing meetings/lessons at Babies in Bloom in Vista on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month (they can teach you how to get your DS on your back if you want). http://www.babywearingsandiego.com/

Heather- I put him on my back at first but the pressure on my belly was too much.. I'm sure that wont be a problem after this baby comes.. Thanks for the info tho!

Just wanted to add that I got the same Ergo from BS! I think DH needs the waist extender so I ordered one. He's a little hesitant on it. DS who is 2, liked the forward position when I put him in it rather than the back! LOL
I have to get an insert for DD but I want to make sure I'm sticking with it and if fits DH

 me
I did not like it at all and just gave mine to a friend. I have a short torso and it did not sit right. It sat really low on me, across my butt, and was very uncomfortable. I've had a Pikkolo for years and it's the only SSC that fits me well. I also love my BH and my wraps.
