So I just finished my 1st skirt! I love it.

I used the Belladonna pattern and some Mystical Creations Yarn (in an unknown colorway. Got it from HC FSOT). In the pics, it hasn't been blocked yet. The ruffle is Milli's at Sweet Tea Soakers. It's so cute. But I had 426 stitches on a 40" cord to BO. Glad I foudn the crochet BO. But still it took 2.5 hours. :banghead:
The pattern was easy to follow. I LOVED the way it turned out.
There's a couple of things I'll do differently with the next ones.
1- I'll start the skirty at the bottom of the waistband, as opposed to a couple of inches down. I can see the seam really well and don't know if it'll become less obvious when it's blocked.
2- I'll add a few more stitches for the legs. My dd has really chunky thighs and it's really tight on her thighs. Also, don't know if it'll be better when blocked.
3- I won't add eyelet rows all the way around. I won't put them on the first couple of rounds so I don't have the holes where the drawstring isn't.
4- I'll make the join of the round on the back. I either read the pattern wrong or it's just funny. But my short rows on the back of the shorts are on the opposite of where I started my yarn. My seams are still not invisible, so I'd rather end my rounds on the back than the front. KWIM?
Overall, though, I am really proud. I think it took about 3 weeks. I'm so amazed at all these people who finish a project in a day or so.

Oh, and I actually started it out with some Paton's green trim. It matched, but it's more army green. I found this Lion wool in sage a liked it MUCH better. So I cut the waist off and attached the other one. I knit upside down, so my knit rows are actually on the inside and purl on the outside. The eyelet rows are in the purl rows, and I actually like it better.
Here's this pic so you can see the color differences.

Love it! But how did you do the ruffle? I saw on another post that it was different than the one she suggests. I'm doing the ruffle she has written and I'm hating it. Not the actual ruffle but I HATE kfb stitches.

Well, then you wouldn't like this ruffle. I kfab into EVERY stitch for 2 rounds and BO. I had to use a crochet BO, cause it would have been insane to do the regular.
I know you can do MIL and MIR for a ruffle, though.

Too cute, Mama! Lovin' those chunky thighs!!
Just curious, you said you knit upside-down. Are you a lefty? My cousin used to tease me for knitting upsidedown when I first learned. I am a lefty, and thought it just seemed "easier." :goodvibes:

No, I'm a righty. I only knit the waistband upside down. That's because I CO with the ugly green and had knit about 2" into the skirty when I found this pretty green. I had 2 choices. Frog it all, or just add the waistband later. I hate to frog, so I had to add the waistband after. That's why I knit it upsidedown.

I think it's beautiful, and I also think that I am nowhere near as perfect as you are with knitting - wow - you are very detailed!
I think what you were saying about the eyelets - I have that problem too - in the waistband - with the BDD pattern. I keep leaving some out on purpose but it's never in the right spot ! I want to leave them out right in the front middle. I'm not sure what you mean about the round ending in back.
Anyways - it's SOOOOO cute, as is your dd as always!

Leidy,
When I was reading the pattern, It says CO x, knit the waist... Then knit the skirt. Now do the row to add the skirt, then start your short rows at x past the 1st marker. Where that ended up for me meant the join of the round was in the front (and center) and my short rows were in the back. I prefer to have the join of my rounds in back, so they're more hidden.
I'll just pay more attention to it next time.
Thanks for the compliments!
I blocked it tonight and I can't wait to have her wear it ALL day tomorrow!!!:lostit:

Oh, that is so beautiful!
What size did you make and how much yarn did you use? This is next on my project list but I have to decide which yarn out of my stash first. I am guessing 3 skeins of 220 yards for a large?
Well done!

Awww, super cute! Your dd's a little doll too
Lemme see if I'm awake enough to help with a few of the issues. For the eyelets, if you back up your front and back marker 1 stitch each before you start the gusset it'll line up dead center. Sorry that was one of those after-thought things and it was only a matter of one stitch so I didn't send out a big update. I think I need a page on my site to reference a few minor corrections, huh? I'll make that a priority this week
The "seam" where you pick up for the skirt, you can put it anywhere you like, I was just trying to eliminate a little bulk up top by starting it lower, it's really a matter of preference. If you pick up the stitches with smaller needles and then knit onto your body needle it goes much easier and is less obvious than picking up with say an 8. Blocking will probably make it look better--everything I make looks a little wonky until I block it, I tend to manhandle my knitting and the kids like to grab, you know how it is  And someone asked me the other day and I forget who, yes your skirt stitches are like 1/2 a stitch offset from the body of the shorts, that's supposed to happen and yes you're knitting upside down suddenly, it's all ok, lol.
Unless you're doing stripes it shouldn't really matter where your start of round is, front or back. When I stripe I usually make my color changes random so there's no glaring line anywhere, front or back. I just prefer that front marker be in the front, I'm working on a soaker right now and I went with the back for a change and it had me all confused, lol.
LOL, those ruffle bindoffs are a pain, huh? But they're so full & flirty! I've done bindoffs on cuffs that were over 200 sts each. I love the ruffle someone else shared the other day too, I just have to try one with her method too, so many ways to go with it and I hope my pattern gets my point across of "It's all ok, it's just yarn & sticks and you can't totally blow it, you can always back up or draft your own changes on the fly and create something fabulous" :goodvibes: Thank you for the pics!

Are you to that part? I think it makes a lot of sense when you get there. I finished the entire shorts first, then went back to the row and picked them up.

Well, I did block it. And it does look better.
But next time, I plan to knit the 1st row on the 3's that I picked up the stitches with. I just picked them up and transferred it to my 7's. :giggle:
I do love the skirt! And I do love the pattern. You just figure out ways to customize it , figure out what you like and what you want to change.
I really am glad I purchased this pattern. I def. will get my money's use out of it! Thanks again, Michelle, for your help and great pattern!!!

That was me. LOL It was driving me crazy trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong. It actually is looking really cute but I still need to finish the skirt. :) I'm about 3/4 done with the skirt... I'm dreading cast off, though. LOL I think I have 168 stitches on the needles right now. :)
