Last time I use Lansinoh and even though I had a rough start, eventually it did help with healing my sores. I tried switching to medelas, but I thought it made DD's breath smell funny :giggle:
What do you use/reccomend? Is there something smoother then lanolin and safe for ingestion (so I don't have to wipe off before?)
What nursing pads do you like? I got free cloth ones from when I visited a LC, but they're really bulky. So I used those at home and wore the lansinoh disposable ones in public. I really don't want to spend too much money on fancy ones though.

I've always used Lansinoh. And for pads, I've always used the lansinoh ones as well. I just can't stand cloth pads! They irritate me like crazy to have extra bulk!

Our hospital has a cream that is antibacterial, antifungal, antibiotic, etc that doesn't need washed off before nursing. It's compounded on site. its the best things since sliced bread as far as I am concerned. I didn't like the lanosoh because its sticky but this stuff is silky.

that sounds great! I had really bad sores which ended up getting thrush. I had to alernate between first aid ointment, nastatin (sp?) and lanolin and it went away in a couple weeks (once we figured out the issue)
I probably can't buy it though, can I?

I used Lansinoh last time, along with cloth pads. I also hated the cloth pads, so I am trying Lansinoh pads this time. I also used a spray lanolin that worked well. It's by The First Years. It's more like an oil than a lotion/cream, but I liked it.

Is it called APNO? that sounds familiar. I'm pretty sure I've read about it on the kellymom website

I've always used Lansinoh, but to be honest I've never really had to use it, I've not had much nipple irritation nursing either of my boys (knock-on-wood). But I liked Lansinoh well enough.
As for nursing pads, for disposable absolutely hands-down Lansinoh!!! I do have some nice wool ones that are very comfy, but sometimes when they get really damp I feel like I smell like a barn-yard :giggle:. After those first couple of really heavy weeks (although I leaked far less with ds2 than I did with ds1) I move onto my Lily Padz, I ADORE those things, no bulk, no throwing away, can hardly feel them there.
Speaking of, I should order myself an extra set, while one is drying.

No one has mentioned the Medela cream but I think it's great! Smooth and soft, not sticky, easy to rub in - it kind of melts from the temp of your finger.

For nursing or chapped skin I used lansinoh oh or gerber makes a stick lanolin...for pumping I use the medela.
oh I tried the gerber one at the reccomendation of the pedi I was supposed to use (she said she loved it with her twins) it was nice not having a bunch of cream on my fingers but it was kinda awkward putting on for me :headscratch: I think I still have it, I should try it again...

I used the Lansinoh with DS but I think I'll also try coconut oil this time since it does so well on the diapering end.
As far as nursing pads... my favorite disposables are the Lansinoh brand. I have some cloth ones I love. The have a layer of fleece on the inside and a layer of PUL on the outer side, they're flat and probably 4-5" across. I wish I knew what they actually were because I want some more. I really don't like the smaller diameter ones they prove to be more bulky than the big ones.

My nursing pads are from Shortcake2386 (the numbers might be wrong on that) Joanna Adkins on here. They are pretty bulky though, wool backed--a couple absorbent layers--and bamboo velour on the inside :). BUT, I have huge oversupply issues & LEAK constantly. (already!) So, I've been wearing pads for 20 months, at all times. (even to bed)
Disposable is not an option with my sensitive skin.
Joanna can make them any size/shape you like w/ however much absorbency you need though!
I had some contoured ones & they didn't fit right so I gave htem away. Now I use 5 1/2 inch flat circles---but my "girls" are kind of huge.

You need a prescription and a compounding pharmacy. It's called APNO aka all purpose nipple ointment. Your OB should know about it :) I plan on having the first Dr who checks me in at the hospital put the order in.

I didn't have any problems with DS, but this time around if I do have any problems, I plan on using coconut oil. Silky, soft, smooth and anti-fungal properties to prevent any potential for thrush.

I used Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple cream. It is actually a thick oil like consistency. It is organic and animal free made from olive oil I believe.
