I want to start my nearly 8 month old on solids. She's been trying to grab food and has been showing interest for over a month now. I've been holding back because I'm afraid of constipation. She's one of those EBF babies who barely poops. There's been times where her poop has been decently solid, to the point where I've had to shake off her diaper before putting it in the bin. I'm afraid to start her with food for fear that she'll instantly back up. What would be a good place to start? Plums?

well, fruit has a way of making people have nice, runny, consistent bowel movements.

I tend to say 'start with veggies' though. If you're afraid of getting her backed up, I'd do fruit and veggies, avoid dairy and carbs and oatmeals.

If you're going to go the puree route, then it's easy to choose fruits and veggies. If you're going to go the finger food route, bananas, oranges, avocadoes, asparagus, steamed carrots, parsnips (my kiddo's favorite), softened sweet potato slices....

I thought bananas were binding? That's why I haven't just given them to her yet.

My bf baby has experienced binding with applesauce & pears, surprisingly not with mashed bananas though...that was his first solid food mixed w/breastmilk.
