So, I have some fluff for sale on eBay and I had one of the bidders contact me to ask me if I had anymore of the diapers FS that weren't listed. I HAD forgotten to list one, so I emailed her back and told her I did have one, what price I was asking and told her if she wasn't interested to let me know by yesterday afternoon so I could list it if she didn't want it. I didn't hear back from her so I went ahead and listed it.
I log on this morning and she emiled me asking why it's listed now and that she had wanted to buy it. Well, I didn't hear back, so I listed it. Now she is asking me to end the auction early because she wants this diaper. There is one other bidder and I CAN end it early for whatever reason I want to, but don't know if I should. This other bidder is also bidding on another item I have and I really don't want to risk the chance of making that bidder mad by ending this early and have them not pay because they're mad. I need to sell these diapers so I have PP for some others and I can't afford to have a non-paying bidder or to have to list it again because of that. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'd be kinda irked if I was wanting something and the auction just ended early.
What would you do? I for sure won't end it until I have the PP from this person if I decide to end it early. I'm just not sure what to do.

I would leave it up for sale.

If you told her when to respond by and she didn't, that is her bad. I would let it ride bc I agree with you that if I was bidding on something I wouldn't like for it to end early.

"if she wasn't interested to let me know by yesterday afternoon"-it appears that you gave her fair warning. Since there is a bid on it from another person the correct thing to do is tell the e-mail writter/bidder that you didn't hear from her so you listed it and now that there is a bid on it you can not end the auction early. If she wants it she can outbid the current bidder.

She said she never got my email and was still waiting for me to respond. :banghead:

Isn't it ebay policy that you can't sell anything without listing it? Not positive on this, but I thought I heard this somewhere. You could tell her that you didn't realize this and that you had to list it to keep with ebay policy.

:yeahthat: I think it is against ebay policy to use their system to sell things outside of the auction environment. I would keep it up for sale - ebay is an auction site, not a personal selling site!

I think there is a clause about not contacting someone about completing a transaction off of ebay. I don't remember if its the buyer, the seller, or both. You are only protected by ebay/Paypal if you do the transaction on ebay. Also, if you get burned, you have nowhere to leave feedback. I think that you gave her the time to respond and she didn't so you were free to list it. If you end the auction early you are out listing fees to ebay at this point.

whats the bid right now and what is she willing to pay. i would likely end it because any extra you get from selling it n ebay will go to fees

I would forward her a copy of the email you sent, apologize about it not getting to her, and let her know that you don't feel comfortable pulling the auction.
I had some guy try to get me to end an auction early... it ended up going for $100 more than he offered. Sounds like maybe she maybe wants a good deal instead of fighting for it (which would turn out better for you in the end).
Also, if you end it early, you still get charged the listing fees.

We sold dh's Apple and it went for $400 and $600 more than the to "please end it early" offers. Those bidders usually don't wanna wait and want a good deal for themselves.
Although if you said "if you aren't interested contact me by" that says to me if I WAS interested that I didn't have a deadline...
BUT!!! There IS a policy through ebay that you buy/sell everything through ebay. It makes them more money, but they offer you protection that way too.
I think I'd tell her I was VERY VERY sorry that communication got lost in E-land but that it wouldn't be fair now to pull it from the current bidder. She'll likely be mad, but she already bought from you and can't pull out over "anger" and the odds of her buying off you on ebay again are slim anyway.

I would leave the auction up. It is against Ebay policy to sell something without it being listed if the other person is an Ebay member. I agree with the pp that it sounds like she wants a good deal and doesn't want to fight for it. I'd tell her that she can bid on it and win it, but that since you already have 1 other bidder on the item, you can't end the auction now. Send her a copy of the email you sent her proving that you did send it.

The worst thing that can happen if you leave it up is that she wins and then leaves you bad feedback cause she's mad. Just get a friend to outbid her at the last minute if she's winning and then sell it to the other person. I'm not a seller, so I don't know if it's unethical, but I wouldn't want bad feedback just because some buyer didn't check her email.

I don't see how she can leave bad feedback. It's not like she can say "she wouldn't end it early for me. At worst perhaps neutral, then you can reply with "buyer upset b/c I wouldn't end it early."
OH! Perhaps offer her that you will hold the other dipes and combine shipping if she perfers. ;)

I would definitley not end it early! If she wants it that bad she can bid just like every body else on ebay - what makes her SOOOO special that she cant follow the rules like everyone else?
You sent the email - you told her she had until tomorrow - to bad so sad she didnt get the email (which I dont believe that anyway). But, you're not willing to risk getting in troubly by eBay to make some chick you dont even know happy!

Send her a copy of the orig email showing that you did in fact send it to her and then copy paste Ebay's policy about selling outside of ebay (it's in all of the emails you get via ebay when another memeber contacts you through the "contact seller" button.
Tell her you're sorry but you didn't realize that that was against ebay's rules and also that the item has a bid on it already and you don't want to end the auction and sell outside of ebay to her.

ITA!
You can actually be suspended from Ebay for selling outside of the auction site. If you sold it to her off Ebay & she wasn't happy with it she could report you & get you in trouble. (Or will tell you that she's going to if you don't give her a full refund) Some people have been known to do that to get stuff basically for free (by blackmailing you in a way, KWIM?)
