I planned to get the boys a wooden toy kitchen for christmas. Its their main gift from Santa and I've planned for it since summer....this one is a great price and I've got it in my shopping cart, but....its not exactly what I was looking for.
I am having trouble weighing the benefits of the sale vs. the fact that its not quite what I wanted.....
What would you do???

Hmmm, I would say place the order, then return it if you find what you want before Christmas. But, the $10 shipping plus $7 return would probably the purpose of ordering it based on price alone. You may be able to sell it for what you paid if you find something else.
But, there's always tons of kitchens for sale in November / December. Usually they are priced competitively due to Christmas sales.
How easily is it to find exactly what you're looking for? Do you often see them on sale?
Is it completely different than what you have in mind? Could you make simple, cheap changes to make it what you need?
I'd probably wait it out if it's considerably different. I've found that when I buy something because of price I usually end up with two items somewhere down the road. The one that was a great bargain, and the one that I wanted to begin with.

No. It bugs me that the stink is over the oven and the stove top is over the cabinet. :giggle:
But seriously, I'd skip it if it isn't what you were envisioning for your space.

Think if you decide to get it theres a coupon floating around for 1.99 shipping from what I heard.

Yeah, with the code in my cart my total for the whole thing, shipping included would be $42.98....
This is what I was envisioning:

I had intended to spend around the $150 range...

There looks like a big difference in quality from what I can see. If you can swing the $150 piece, I say go for it. That's a nice enough toy that it could be passed down to grandchildren...

Oh wait...I see the nice one is $250. Ouch. That's pricey....but it is an awfully nice kitchen.

Don't know if this will help...i bought my daughter a kitchen set after Christmas last year to put back until this Christmas. I settled on the one I bought because it was CHEAP...like 90 off! I said it would be fine, we would save the money, it was a little smaller, etc. For almost a year I have regretted it! It is not the one I wanted and it has driven me crazy. 2 weeks ago I found THE kitchen set at a garage sale...I was literally almost in tears and punished myself for not waiting for the right one & settling by leaving! I got 1/2 way down the block and my DH convinced me to go back & get it. I lugged it home and it is fantastic. In the meantime I was lucky enough to sell the other one to someone so we are back to one kitchen. I regretted settling because I already had a picture in my mind of my dd playing with it. Typically I am all about saving money but these 2 sets really showed the difference in price in their quality. If you think it will get a lot of use get the one you want if you can afford it.

is it the little green one? looks pretty small, DS's kitchen is large but still probably not big enough for 2!

I didn't get it.
Posting the pic of the one I wanted and then going back to look at the one from magic cabin really solidified to me that it wasn't the one we needed. Thanks for all the advise. It really helped to hear some BTDT's!!!

glad you didn't get it :)
another btdt...we now have a very small wooden play kitchen that was $100 on etsy...originally, we couldn't afford the big nice one, so i went for the big "not-as-nice" one....it was barely used and a waste of space/money.....last year we got the smaller one and they use it all.the.time....we tell them often that their toys are made by either me, daddy or someone else's mommy/daddy....they get that their toys are special because they are made just for them and not in a factory, and i think they notice when it is toys r us type toys, probably because of MY unhappiness with those types of toys....it is probably detected and that's why my kids don't play with it as much... not that i am obvious about it, but children can be very intuitive...at young ages, often they are enthusiastic about what you're enthusiastic about....they'll notice if you're not...i say scale down and get quality :goodvibes:

I did a LOT of looking for the perfect kitchen set for DD for the purpose of being able to have at least one substantial toy that can be passed down to her children someday... we got a Willow one... and the matching Ice box. We LOVE it!

Yeah, I'll get one tomorrow... it's been in the kids (messy) room not getting with for awhile... we talked this morning and found a space in the living room for it, so I'll get a picture once it's moved :)

This is the one picture I have uploaded on our blog - from Christmas morning 2008. The ice box came 2 weeks later.
