Hows everyone feeling? Seems like most of us have finally passed the MS. I've been feeling good, but my hips are killing me. I feel them stretching and seperating like my other pregnancies. Means uncomfortable nights for sure!! But otherwise, doing good!
I really need to get my diet in check. Anyone interested in doing one of those no sweets for two weeks things with me?

July 20-27? Is that a subconscious desire to be closer to delivery? Lol! I'm also trying to be better about my diet after gaining 6 pounds over. 4 day weekend away. Eating out was not good! I'm also trying my best to exercise daily at some level. So tues, thurs, and today, I'm walking 30 min on the treadmill on my lunch break at the PT dept next door and Wednesday I worked out with my trainer. Tomorrow I'll try to do a 30 min walk in my neighborhood and Sunday we go to the gym to work out. Going to try my best to keep that up.
Other good news: heard back from the local diaper service in Hawaii and they said I could do a 2 wk service when there in September but of course have to pay the service fee and delivery fee like everyone else. And I guess they had issues with visitors bouncing checks in the past so only cash or money order but that's not a big deal for me. She's going to give me a total estimate based off the amount an average 2 month old would need in prefolds each week. What is your experience with that age?

Ok I'm going to prob ask a silly question lol but for you home birthers... Do you have to go in to the hospital afterwards? How do you get a birth certificate or a ped see the baby or anything? Am I missing something? Lol

A big reason for a homebirth is to avoid going to the hospital! Midwives are trained for newborn care. In fact mine do the checks to 6 weeks. The midwife takes care of all the postpartum stuff for the first few hours( and can do stitches if you tear) and then usually comes back the next day to check up on mom and baby again. And then I go to her at 1 week, 3 weeks and 6 weeks. We are responsible to check temps and heart rates every once in awhile for the first couple days. You can just call your regular ped and make an appt after the baby is born if you want to go in right away. And the midwife also sends in the for the birth certificate.

So sorry! I've been having regular headaches too this time around! It seems that I can't get enought water and with the cold and dry weather we've been having its making it worse! I guess I just need to drink more water, but geez, I am in the bathroom all day. Anyone else having this problem?

I've had a few babies I treat be born at home. The parents, if not already established with me, will do a meet and greet appt with me to get to know me and we go over what to do once baby is born (I have them call the clinic within 48 business hours). It's kind of fun to hear their birth stories when they bring baby in for the first visit.

Hips are hurting here, too. Not everyday, just some days/evenings. I really, really should do the no sweets thing. I just don't think I can do it... I'll think about it if anyone else will get on board. I'd be lucky to go 2 days, at this point. Should there be some kind of reward involved???

Are you coming to O'ahu? I also contacted the Dolphin Diaper service when I thought there was a possibility of us having triplets, but two in cloth seems much more manageable for me now!
I also have been trying to walk about 2-4 miles a day. It's a mile from my house to DD's school so I have been walking it as often as possible so that I can stay active. The bed rest scare slowed me down, but I am hoping to start back up with both dropping her off and picking her up next week, which is an easy way to get in 4 miles. It goes by quickly and isn't a chore.

Ditto to what others said, but my midwifes are also my DD's peds (and will be the peds for this LO), so I get it super good--my babies will continue to see the same doctors from the moment of birth until...whenever! The doctors/midwives see male and female adults too, so even DH will go to them if he needs a doc. So awesome! lol

Yep! I grew up in Pearl City and my parents still live there so that's where we'll stay when we visit. Won't be there until September though for a quick visit so the Hawaii family and friends can see the baby - most important person will of course be my grandma and I can't wait for her to meet this little one!

There was a Kanoe hammock on Ebay that I've been stalking all week but the auction was set to end when I would be sleeping early this morning. It's used and from a seller with very little feedback so I decided before I went to bed how much I would be willing to risk on it, put in my bid, and went to sleep. This morning I woke up and I had lost it - by a lot! That sucker went for $260! I don't feel bad about losing it.... I can buy a brand new one in the same colors from the company when they get them in a few more weeks. I bet the poor sucker that paid nearly new price for a used one didn't know that!

Congrats on getting your first boy! Can't wait to find out what we'll have.
Today we made our first big luxury item purchase in a long time. We bought a reclining rocker from La-Z-Boy. We didn't care for the traditional gliders we saw at baby stores and figure that in the long run, having a chair that can eventually be used in the living room would be a worthwhile investment. Plus they're having sales right now. So we got a nice cushy big chair. It will be ready for pick up next month so we've got to get that room painted. We moved the queen bed over to the craft room so that's now the craft/guest room. Tomorrow hopefully DH will do a test patch of the paint sample we bought. And I bought more diapers (2 rumparooz). LOL! Between IVF and buying baby items, we're really racking up the points on the rewards credit card!

 Hi Heather, its about time you came over :giggle:
AFM: Went to see the chiropractor on Friday and I think he is amazing. They had a homebirth, used cloth diapers and totally understood babywearing! Apparently my entire pelvis is rotated to the left and I have a ton of issues in my upper back and neck from nursing, carrying babies, tension, etc. I go back on Wednesday for another adjustment and this should help a lot with my migraines as well as the sciatic nerve pain. I am just so excited because I am already feeling better, so this might be the best pregnancy yet! Price wise, he charges $50 an adjustment but has a buy 10 get 2 free policy, so that brings the price down to around $45 each.
In other exciting news.... We finally agreed on names. So exciting, its becoming much more real for both of us now. :lostit: We always had names right away for the other kids so its been so weird not to have anything this time. For a boy it will be Grayson Ezekiel and for a girl it will be Reagan Eden. We aren't really going to make the names public (if you know me on fb) because there are so many preggo's in my church right now I don't want name "borrowing" :giggle2: We will tell our parents when we find out the gender in exactly 1 more month! :woot:

I know it is early but I seen a thread on birth plans and I wrote mine out tonight. Man is that thing long! Anyone going to do a birth plan? This is my first plan :)
I did one with my last birth, I worked really hard to keep it to a page for birth, and a page (less than, really) for baby care. I felt like nurses really wouldn't want to read more than that! Many of my birth preferences were things I could discuss with my midwife beforehand (i.e. no episiotomy. nurses don't really need to know that!) and I left those off. I tried to keep my plan short and bullet-ed, easy to skim. I guess it might need to be longer if you're going to be subject to an on-call doctor, but so far both my HCPs (one OB, one nurse) and my current OB have all said they do all their deliveries, barring vacation/illness/etc.
luckyducky77
01-23-2012, 10:37 AM
Not sure I will write anything out. The joke in ob and on the L&D floors is that the longer the birth plan, the higher the chances of a c-section. I think I'll just tell them I plan to do this naturally without pain meds. Interventions, as dictates by the clinical situation, will be fine. My medical training makes me capable of knowing what's legit and what's not...at least the non-laboring mind of mine knows it. I may need to express to my doctor that unless my baby is dying inside me and won't come out without an episiotomy, he should let me tear. I've got an appt this week so I'll ask him about his episiotomy attitude.
SqueakersMama

I don't know that we'll write anything out, either. My birth plan is pretty much 'don't touch me unless I or the baby is dying' - so I don't know that writing anything will help much. The one reason that I might do it is because I will be laboring/delivering with whatever midwife or family practice doctor is on call so I don't really have an option to express my wishes ahead of time. I dunno. I've never had trouble with my wishes not being respected - but I've also never had a birth where I didn't just go along with a lot of whatever they want to do. Maybe whoever I get will be really hands-off anyway, and then I'll still be going along with whatever they want to do! :giggle:

Oh my gosh, I couldn't live without my swing with my DS! He refused to sleep in anything but the swing. We burned through so many D batteries! But it was worth it to get some sleep. He was 6 months old when he finally would sleep in a crib. My DD didn't seem to care about the swing and slept well in her crib from day one. That's the swing I want too!!! I found it for sale on Craigslist, but the seller is like 3 hours away, and she said she never comes down my way (which I find odd since I live on the way to the only major airport and other such things), and she said she'd only sell it to me with a separate bassinet, which I don't need. The savings wasn't that great anyway--certainly not enough to drive 3 hours there and 3 hours back for. :-P
DH is thinking we should get that hammock that someone linked to recently rather than the swing. I like that idea!
By the way, my DD would just about only sleep in the swing (when it was at its fastest speed!) the first three months of her life, but then I transitioned her to a crib (and part time co-sleeping) without a problem. I thought it would be a big deal, but it wasn't. And my DD was a really difficult baby as far as sleeping goes! So while I was so worried at the time that I was going to get her dependent on something, it wasn't that case at all. With this baby I'll do some things differently, including not worrying so much!

It would cost so much to send to me if they would even send it, I was told that it's the size that makes in not ok to ship to me :( I am in love with that swing, and it takes batteries and plugs in so you don't have to buy batteries if you dont want to. I am going to hold of on buying a swing till I find out if they will move me back to the states before this baby comes or not.
ETA- I am so stupid when I am preggo. A few weeks ago my keys went missing and today I lost my spare set. We are supposed to be going to Awana but we won't be making it tonight again because of my stupid self! Ugh I think I should hide under a rock till I have this baby and get some brains back in my head! I don't know what I am going to do when DH deploys and can't come save me from my stupidity.
I'm so sorry :hugs: It is frustrating to get the pregnancy stupids!! I usually have them horribly, but not at all so far this time. I'm wondering if I just finally reached maximum brain cell loss so I don't notice anymore. Meh....

So i was looking at the swing of my dreams (the ZEN one by fisher price) I look at it a few times a week online. any way the first time i asked amazon they told me i couldnt get it sent to FPO but right on the swings description it says it can! so i msgd them again and they said that they can "NOW" mail it to FPO boxes (i dont think it really changed i just think the realized they messed up when they told me i couldnt order it). That means i can have it! made my day. i still have to wait to find out if i will be moving back to America first because my stuff will take 2 months to get to my new house and i wont be able to use it if i order it then send it with my stuff. but i just wanted to share how happy i am.

so i've decided i really want a doula for this birth. until this past year, i've never even heard of a doula:blush: i did some research online about local ones, and they seem awesome. But..we may be moving in April, so I don't want to contact someone until I know for sure. Do doulas even take women when they're 32-34 weeks along?? As much as I try to tell DH all the statistics and whatnot, hes more of an "uhhuh, whatever you say" kind of guy. So i need someone there to advocate for me because when the pressure comes, I know DH will buckle unfortunately.
any tips or suggestions on doulas?
pharmmama
01-26-2012, 10:38 AM
I looked into a doula before, but it turns out I get irritable and mouthy in labor and hate extra people around so it's not the best idea for me. DH has learned that labor is NOT a good time to crack jokes. I'd call and talk to one of the doulas in your current area and see what they suggest that you do in your situation. And I'd also try to get a list of doulas in the area you might be moving to so that the move becomes for sure you'll have them down already and will be able to contact them without hunting for the information later.

Such good advice. I was so much better with my second, but still not as calm as I had hoped. I weaned her off the pacifier at 6 weeks, because I was afraid it would become an issue later... hehe!

That's a great idea. We have one of those combination lock boxes on our back door now, like people use when they're selling a house. I've had to use it numerous times...
I've been finding dirty dishes in the cabinets. For some reason my brain wants to put them there instead of the dishwasher
That's too funny! I'm just the worst at remembering simple words. I feel like a complete idiot when I am conversing with people, because I can't remember simple nouns and misuse words constantly! It's so much easier to type...

Interesting. Well he already gave us a guess at our 12 week scan of a girl, so hopefully it is more reassuring now. I have had a feeling its a girl as well, so we will see. :D We still plan on going for a 3d scan at about 30 weeks or so this time since its our last and we have never done it.

I need to get a key first:cry: I called the car fixing places on base to see if any make keys (with out a key to copy) and they gave me a number to a local place. I called and they dont speak english and dont come on base (my car is at my house on base) so i dont know what i am going to do! i am stressed to the max about my car and DH goes away in a few days. i guess i can use his car but that does not fix my problem. UHG i am going to reck my house tring to find one of my lost keys. i think one went out with the trash and the other i have no idea but it has to be in my house :headscratch: i cannot drive without a key and i have to lock my car from the outside so i know i didn leave it in the car and i couldt have left it some place because i would have had to drive home.
TEAM GREEN! i was so happy to not find out gender this time but i dont think i am going to have the strength to not find out when i am in the U/S room all by myself at 18 weeks. thats like 3 1/2 weeks away. it feels like FOREVER!!!!!
i need to buy diapers. I have lots of diapers but if this little one is a girl i need PINK/PURPLE/PRINCESS stuff. plus DH will be deployed so no witness to my fluff mail intake  as long as i dont use my CC he wont even know, i should have lots of extra money now that i wont be buying gas for my car lol.

:roflmbo: I am so sorry, I shouldn't laugh - but you have me rollin' over here. I have so been there!! We had to file bankruptcy several years ago (house that we couldn't sell) and we voluntarily gave up our car in the bk. The bank was going to charge us several hundred dollars for us to turn it in, but if we waited for it to be repossessed then the fee would be included in the bankruptcy. So anyway the repo guy shows up on day to get the car and of course we didn't know they were coming that day so dh had one set of keys with him at work and I could not find my keys ANYWHERE. The repo guy thought I was lying to be difficult and saying I didn't have them when I really did so he turns into a giant dbag. Another car in our driveway was blocking the car he needed so he asked me to move it and I started to respond and he cut me of and said "oh let me guess, you don't have those keys, either" and I was like ummmm.... all on the same key ring.....:giggle: Some days!

Imediatly my head said YES! Then I realized I am not ready at all for baby. I have been purposefully putting off buying/organizing much because we should be finding out by the beg of March when we are moving. We either have to go just before the baby is born or just after and they require different game plans. I do wish time would go a little faster, and then I feel bad because I am not ready for my twinisies to be big kids yet.

I am sorry you had a bad night. I had one too and I was really worried. Tons of cramping and generally feeling unwell. Finally I fell asleep, but when I woke up I had a killer headache at the base of my neck and behind my eyes and had to puke! I did not have MS so it was a bit of a surprise. I will be resting all day today too--I was hoping to feel good enough to run to the store but I guess I will online baby shop as well.

My Dr. ultrasound is not until Feb 13. I'll be a day shy of 19 weeks for that one. We just got anxious once we decided we wanted to know so we went to an independent place that does only baby ultrasounds. It was in a great big room with a bunch of leather couches in the dark and the ultrasound picture was on a giant movie theater-sized screen so the whole family could see. It was only $50 (well + 5 hours of driving and dinner).
ETA - I totally understand your frustration. I have soooo been there! And I love finding out what everyone is having, too!

Apparently we all pair up with someone and we will text that person or fb them or something however they work it out when they go into labor so they can keep the rest of us updated lol
Sounds good to me :)

Do you guys wanna do the buddy system like may DDC has going on?
I'd rather not - I or someone with me will be posting on here during it for me. I don't want to obligate anyone to acting on my middle-of-the-night labor texts at the end of a pregnancy.

This is kind of random - but I figured that's what this thread is for! So dh and I have the Baby Center app on our phones just for fun and it has a widget where it tells you the approximate size of the baby weekly and gives a comparison to a fruit or a vegetable. This week on that app it says that baby weighs about 2 1/2 ounces, but when we were getting our ultrasound the other day the tech estimated her weight at 6 oz. Now I know that ultrasounds are notoriously inaccurate as far as weight estimates go (especially later in pregnancy), but the tech's comment was that the 6 oz. weight was right on. She said that they expect to see them at about 6 oz. at 16 weeks, 7 oz. at 17 weeks, and so on. She didn't say how far that is accurate to - I mean obviously a 40 week baby weighs more than 40 oz., but I thought it was interesting that a there was such a discrepancy between Baby Center's 2.5 oz. and the medical world's 6 oz. Anyway...... ramblings from my brain!
