I had an impacted wisdom tooth cut out 2 weeks ago and discovered that pus was oozing from a lump in my jaw when I pushed on it this morning!! I called and they called me in a script for Ammoxicillian. I would rather do something natural such as honey. I have raw honey... any experience with this??

I wouldn't do it. Oral infections can be very dangerous.

I know... the infection doesn't seem too bad yet, though. I have to push on my jaw for anything to come out of the wound, and the discharge is just a tiny amount.

What did people do back in the day?? Or what do people in the less modernized/medicalized places do for infections? Using honey for infections is actually encouraged on WebMD lol

Look up a recipe for thieves oil. My DH uses it when he gets tooth infections.

I wouldn't wait until it gets bad, infections like that are nothing to mess around with, that is what antibiotics are for. We always treat our health issues holistically, but with this I would go with the medication. You could try adding a saline rinse to help clear it out possibly.

I worked for an oral surgeon. Take the medicine. If you don't it will likely make your entire face swell up at which point the doctor will have to cut you back open and drain it. If it has progressed enough at that point he could have to put a drain in it and possible admit you to the hospital for IV antibiotics. Take the meds!

Back in the day, people died from such infections. Poor and transient people still do.

Take the medicine. Just follow it up with a few months of probiotic.

Even naturopathic doctors occasionally prescribe antibiotics, for good reason. Sometimes they're very necessary.

if i recall right an oral infection can spread to the lining of the heart easily. that being said I would use clove oil depending on how bad it was but only you can know that

I alternated swishing warm salt water and peroxide to keep the bacteria down. But if you already have an infection, I would take the antibiotics. Oral infections can spread rapidly.

Okie is right. From the teeth to the heart! Oral infections are not something to play around with! Please take the meds start probiotics also. If you want to do the holistic with the meds it cant hurt. I would definitely be swishing with pexoide and water.
As a nurse i tend to lean towards doing holistic 1st for my family except when it comes to the mouth/teeth.

Well, I am taking the meds. Holistic tends to take longer to work with me, and I was starting to feel sick from the infection.

Have you done oil pulling? That can help.

Yup this! I was a dental assistant for a few years. Take the meds. What did people do back in the day? Die. Abscesses are nothing to play with.

I knew a young lady who died due to complications from a dental abcess last year. She was pregnant 4 months and didn't want to take antibiotics :'(

First off, yes, of coarse, take the meds if you have access to them, if it spreads, get access to them immediately.

I would start with Oil of Oregano as often as I could stand topically. I would be chowing down raw garlic, elderberry honey, and Oregon grape root (or Goldenseal) tincture.
I would probably also drop tea tree oil on it and do salt water gargles.

OMG... The infection is back, or never fully cleared!! I just confirmed that the lump that I thought may be enlarging again, is indeed pus and blood!!!!!! Not nearly as much as before, but still  what now??!!! Ten MORE days of abx?? And now I have to call the surgeon again, when I cannot stand him...

To answer your question, YES! Call your dr and let them know. Im assuming you are rinsing out your mouth regularly :) Sometimes more than one round of antibiotics is needed, or maybe they can suggest a different one for you. Im so sorry you're nit getting better. Its frustrating, i know! Hang in there... Drink lots of water, take advil or whatever you like for pain and fevers :( soon enough it will be over with.

I thought I could stop rinsing
It's just SO hard to take proper care of myself with lots of small children underfoot all day... and maybe I missed something important the nurse said? Ugh.
