My son turns one in a few weeks and I have no idea what to buy as gifts so I thought you all may have some great ideas. :) The only thing I have thought of so far is a Waldorf doll.

ETA~ Ok, I ordered the Waldorf doll but what else can I get for him? I really like the wooden or more natural toys. Not really interested in battery toys or things I can just go pick up at the local store. I am thinking more along the lines of WAHM toys.

Thanks!

I have two favorite toys for 1 year olds. The first is the leap frog bus that has the alphabet all the way around and the three frogs in it. My daughter loved pressing the d button over and over, she also knew her upper & lower case letters by the time she was 20 mo. The other is a set of 6 peeping eggs in an egg crate (all plastic) made by tomy. They don't have any batteries and have neat shapes and different faces on the shells. The eggs are probably my favorites over the bus. My daughter still loves the eggs at 3 yrs.

THank you.:goodvibes:

Any other suggestions? I prefer toys without batteries, natural is great. If it is WAHM stuff that is awesome as well.

My DD was all about books at that age, still is.

She also got a panda stuffed animal which i thought "oh dear, the animal collection is expanding, I'll start my donations to the children's shelter" but she looooves it. which makes it easier to screen all further animals :) Anyway 1year seeme dthe perfect age for bonding with an animal. I've seen lots of WAHM crocheted animals on DS.

PopPop made her wooden blocks for stacking/building, they will be played with for years!

I love Melissa and Doug toys! We got him 3 of the wooden puzzles, the animal pull along train set and the stacking rings for Christmas. Maybe I will look for a shape sorter? That sounds like a good idea.

DS's favorite toy that he got for his first birthday was a drum filled with other instruments, a tambourine, rattle, xylophone, etc. It was made by Parents and is available at Target.

DS loves his bath crayons and cloth blocks with crinkle, rattle, and bells that I made him. All are super easy to make and very economic. :)

Does anyone have any WAHM links to wooden cars/trucks/toys and also Playsilks?

We were at a local toy store shopping for our son's first birthday, and my husband asked another dad who was there with some young kids about what he'd recommend for a first birthday present.

The guy thought for a second and said, "Uh, wrapping paper?" HA!

It was so true, too...he loved the paper and ribbons the most that day. :)

Anyway, we got this Radio Flyer Walker Wagon for him and it was a HUGE hit. Obviously not in the WAHM category but hadn't been mentioned yet and he still loves it at 17 months. I think he'll use it for quite a while.

Thanks for all of the great ideas! I found some really cool wooden cars and trucks so I am going to buy some of them. I am trying to find a good place to buy playsilks...or perhaps I should make them myself.
