Ok so we took DS Jayden to MD to get his shots... *no heat please we are not taking him to get anymore, did my research, wish I never did it before.... but he is only 4 months, no more now* well first off... We went to get just shots... But I also had to ask her about a ezema type rash on his torso, at that point it was at its worse.. Bad dry flaky skin.. Red... She said oh yeah its ezema, gave a script for a cream... Of course I take everything home, and do my own research on the script... I read that it can cause CANCER in children... So I DO NOT put on son... Then I go by pharmacy to tell them I am not getting script.. They said NO WAY cant believe MD gave it to you... SOOOO after thinking about it long and hard... My husband and I both decided NO MORE VAX.... I am on the search now for a MD that wont pressure me... I know the risks, but I also know some really good herbalist, that I believe can help anything... And with my MD being such a dummy and giving me something that would cause Cancer, I dont think we will be going there anymore.. Good thing we figured out what causes the rash... And now he has been rash free for a week.. :) No more scented anything.. Even the natural organic stuff... :( Cetaphil is the only lotion he will get now... Have not heard anything or read anything about it, so I hope there is not anything.. :(
My vent for the day.. Sorry.. Just had to speak my mind to mommies who understand... Just glad I have my DH behind me on no VAX

:hugs: Way too many dr.'s hand out prescriptions like candy without looking for an underlying cause. I'm glad that you were able to see this dr.'s true colors before he had a chance to treat your ds any longer. :hugs:
And good for you for being proactive and researching before filling the prescription.
Vent away, dr.'s screw up sometimes and it's good for others to know that they're not gods.. they're humans just like the rest of us, so thanks for sharing.
p.s. Glad to hear your dh is on board with you not vaxing anymore. I think the decision is so much harder when there's conflict between the parents over it.

Just chiming in but I'm thinking it was elidel (sp). They gave us this for our oldest before they decided it could cause cancer, and my understanding was that it was no longer for use on children. We haven't used it in a long time (years) but we did keep the tube with the rx info on it in case anything ever happens. We also figured out what triggered the excema and stopped using everything that did. Dr's should definately look for the cause instead of just giving some meds!

Yes yes it is tha Elidel stuff... I am glad I caught it when I did... And we did to find out what was causing his skin to get soo bad... :) I wish she would have just asked about causes more then just fixing the issue... Well at least this lets other moms know there is a cream out there that can cause such.. :)

wow, thats the stuff my friend recommended. I even called the other day because she talked about it maybe becoming over the counter. She uses it on her little 4 year old. I'll have to tell her. Anyone have a link to the site where it tells how bad it is.

My son has severe eczema and at one time we were using Elidel for him. When the warning came out regarding Elidel causing cancer, I spoke with my pediatrician. He said that the studies referred to Elidel taken INTERNALLY, not used topically. If you have a small child who puts their hands in their mouth, etc - then this is a concern. For us, it was not since my son was beyond that age at the time he received the script.

We too were prescribed Elidel AFTER they came out about the cancer thing!!! I was freakin pissed because unlike my usual self, this time I didn't research it first. I used it on ds a few times. Then I thought, wait a second....is this stuff safe? I googled it and found out the truth. I was really angry at the doctor. It was a instacare doctor though and we had since moved. We don't vaccinate either and don't have a regular ped.

I'm glad the Cetaphil is working for your son. I can't use their soaps or lotions, they give me rashes. But I'm fine with all the other stuff. Weird huh!

Aquaphor works really well on our kiddies little faces. We used to smear them up really good before bed when they were smaller. We have yet to figure out what causes it for them though! :banghead: We do know that carpet seems to irritate one of the babies though. What was it for your LO? We also were prescribed elidel for DS #1 right before that warning came out. We only used it once though, b/c he had a terrible reaction to it within seconds of it being on him! He's allergic to it!!

A Dr prescribed that for my friends infant too and she was HOT! Thankfully she knew better than to use it for her baby, but what about the people that put all of their faith in their Drs?
We are a non vaxxing family here and out Ped doesn't pressure us about it. I made sure that I researched A LOT and knew my information before telling him that we would not be vaxxing. You have to be able to voice WHY you do not want to vax and be educated about the topic...that way no one can back you into a corner.:hugs:

Good ole vaseline works well sometimes too. In addition to cutting any and all fragrance free products....not to say that your LO is allergic to the products, however not having the exposure to them reduces the chance of that being the cause of any flair ups. KWIM? We were given several different atopical ointments last year (none were elidel...though my niece did great on elidel) when DS was breaking out on his face really bad.
I haven't used Aquaphor eczema before but i've used the Aquaphor gentle baby wash and really liked it.
DS hasn't had any breakouts since late summer/fall last year but we still keep things fragrance free for the most part just to be safe.

Our allergist prescribed my dd, 12 months at the time, elidel. He gave us an info sheet with all the warnings and his views on using it and the studies about cancer. He said he wants his patients to be informed about the drugs they are using. I'm surprised a dr would prescribe it without disclosing more information.
