Out of no where I'm all pumped to get healthy and stay that way. I'm not super duper unhealthy (but I'll admit I love fries, and soda, etc...)
I just started excersising again and it's great. I NEED/WANT to lost this baby pouch I have going on and I know I can I just need to get motivated. And, maybe lose some extra pounds while at it.
I'm wondering what supplements should me and DH take on a regular basis. Honestly, we're both horrible at remembering to take anything so it may be a hard start but I reeeeally wanna do this for us.
Im rambling - please share away (Brenda where are you girl - i know youre like a pharmacy hahhahahaha)

I am getting ready to start taking a couple things for mood (5-HTP and St John's Wort), but also I take purified fish oil (sooo healthy) and a multivitamin. I also drink protein shakes (purchased from mercola.com), which I add fruit to (now that I got my JT stuff, I'm going to blend some of it in my shakes).
Also, I took Cleartract to get rid of my UTIs (works GREAT), and I just ordered some more so I can take it daily for maintenance. Blueberries or blueberry supplement pills are great to take daily. And...what else? :headscratch: Oh yes, if you want to get healthy, you must clean your colon. Really, I've been reading so much about this, there's all kinds of toxins and disease in there. Giving it a GOOD cleaning will also help you lose weight and absorb the nutritional supplements you're taking.
Check out the colon cleanse thread. I have been taking the Arbonne kind, which I like, but when I start getting more regular, I'm going to order Dr Schulze's deep cleaning colon cleanse to get all the gunk out.

ya, they of course say to check with your dr if you're pregnant or lactating, but it's all natural and supposed to be safe. I'm bfing and I'm comfortable with it.

I used to be a rep for a distributing company for supplements in my province, so I still have all my retailer connections and some reps who give me deals or I would not be able to afford all these. I refuse to buy mass market or multilevel marketing stuff. I am a supplement snob big time.
Vitamin C (or ester c if I have the $)
Vitamin E
CoQ10
Cal/mag/vitd/zinc combo
Mutli with high b comp
Acidophilus
Digestive Enzymes
Flora Vit liquid iron
Salmon oil
High EPA/DHA omega blend oil
Folic Acid
Protein shakes (whey concentrates/isolate blend)
Veggie greens powder
PGX fibre supplement
Alpha lipoic Acid
DH takes a few other ones for his ADD brain like L-theanine, and phos. choline and serine.
I'd have to check the cupboard for the rest, but that's about it.

I don't really know 'cause I don't like to swallow pills/vitamins, but I like the brand Rainbow Light when I used prenatals, they were easily digested.
I just wanted to add that I found out that better for babies sells vitamineral! You can get cloth dipes and this awesome green powder in the same fluffy package!

Jena-
Tell me about it. I took a flintstone when I was growing up and washed it down with Tang. Very healthy:laugh:
I don't know about brands in the States, but you want to get a good multi vitamin from a health food store. You may pay a little more, but the people will be trained to help you out. Or if you have a naturopath ask them what they usually recommend. In Canada, some good brands (you might have them there too) are Natural Factors, Progressive, Genestra (naturopath only), Trophic.
With vitamins and nutrition, it's not what you ingest, it's what you absorb. Grocery store type vitamins (like centrum, sorry but that is the one that everyone knows) have artificial colors, fillers and binders. They basically try to cram everything they think your body needs into one vitamin that you take once per day (um hello, this doesn't work with meals so why with vitamins??) In doing so, they press it together so hard that it's almost impossible for your stomach to have it completely broken down by the time it hits your intestine (that's where each vitamin is absorbed).
Your intestines are kinda like a bus stop, where each nutrient has an absorption site (next stop the duodenum for calcium), so if your vitamin isn't totally broken down and you miss that site, you don't get that nutrient no matter what it says on the bottle.
Look for a multi that is a 2 or 3 a day that you take with each meal. It will take a while to get into the habit, but it's a start. Once you can do this for 1 or 2 bottles, then start adding other things in like extra vitamin C or vitamin E, calcium, or essential fatty acids or other things that address your personal health issues (PMS, menopause, prostate health, blood sugar, digestive problems etc.). It is really easy to go overboard, so start slow then add on. Seems to be lots of smart ladies on here who are more than willing to give great advice. Love that:thumbsup:

I take a prenatal from my hospital, iron (I'm severely anemic), and calcium. I usually get my supplements from gnc, I used to manage one so some of the employees will hook me up w/discounts. When I was dieting, I took garcinia and CLA.

prenatals (twinlab, the only kind that doesn't make me feel sick), an extra folic acid, fish oil (nordic naturals brand has no heavy metal or pcbs). I try to take the iron & calcium when I remember.

On a daily basis I take a good prenatal (taking Rainbow Lite right now), a probiotic, and fish oil. I've recently also been into the Vitamineral Green (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/topic.php?health=vitamineral+green). It's absolutely great. It's great for overall health, and I find i have so much more energy when I take it in the mornings. I typically just mix it in a smooth or with some juice. It's a little pricey, but I've found it at the site where I get my supplements for a lot less than in the stores.

I take:
cod liver oil (Garden of Life brand - that is the one Weston A Price Foundation recommends)
Spirulina (I add it to smoothies, but you can get it in capsule form)
Chlorella (I haven't had any recently, but this stuff is great. It naturally cleanses all the crumminess out of your body!)
Probiotics
