Does anyone side carry using a mei tai? Can you post pics or a link to pics of this carry?

We tried doing a side carry today with dd and she just seemed miserable and it kept sliding and cutting into my neck. We also tried the back pack carry and she was very low but the straps were tight. Not sure what we are doing wrong. We've only had this for about 2 weeks so I'm still getting used to it. So far the only carry she likes is forward facing.

Have you tried her on your back? My Mei Tai is will be on its way tomorrow, so I don't have any pictures. But I found either a ring sling or a rebozo wrok well for side carries.

I've got a video demonstration of it on my site...HERE (http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeqc7eh/id118.html), it's in the Right hand column at the bottom.

That was a great video and site!

Here's pics of another way to do the hip carry:

Thanks for the great links ladies!

The kozycarrier link was a great help! We'll try some of these tomorrow and see how it goes.

I haven't checked the links so I might be repeating info, but here's what I do:

I tie the MT bottom straps around my waist with the MT positioned over whichever hip I will carry on (I put it a little in front so it's really over my thigh more than my hip, just like the 2 women in the above posted pics). I'm going to say right hip to help me explain myself! :) I then step my right leg (same leg as whichever hip you will carry on) up on a step/chair/couch/anything that's handy so my leg is bent and I pick up my baby and sit him on the bent right leg over the MT body. I pull the body of the MT up and then there are two ways I can wear the top straps, depending on what feels better:
1) take the top left MT strap and pull it over my left shoulder and cross it in back to the right hip and then take the right top MT strap and pull it over my right shoulder, cross in back to the left hip, then pull both straps around my waist to meet in the front, adjust baby so he is riding high enough to wear it's comfortable, and tie snugly under baby's bottom. This is just like how I would tie the MT if I were to wear my baby in front, only he would be scooted to the side a bit in this position :)
OR 2) take the top left MT strap and pull it over my left shoulder and cross it in back to the right hip and then take the right top MT strap and pull it under the right armpit and then up to and over the left shoulder, then pull it down to meet the other strap under baby's bottom, adjust baby, and tighten straps to tie in front under baby's bottom. I then adjust both shoulder straps so that they feel comfortable on the left shoulder (both straps should be on the left shoulder, overlapped slightly). I usually stretch the left strap over to sit on the ball of my shoulder and then let the right strap sit a little closer to my neck (I think?).

I think I usually do the second because it feels more comfortable to me but you can play around with both and see what feels best for you

HTH :goodvibes: !! Let us know how it goes for you! :)

Those videos are great!! You make it look so easy, and your baby is super cute -- so cooperative :) I bookmarked your site and will refer to it often I'm sure. I'm waiting for my first MT to arrive. Thanks so much for a great site! :goodvibes:
