I'm in the same boat mama.
I found that the padded slings felt too bulky on me.
I loved my maya wrap. I could even wear it under jackets when it was cold outside.
I actually have one for sale, if you're interested I can send pics.

Well, what kind of carrier are you looking for? Also, are you tall too or just rounder?

Ring slings are easy for new babies. You can get them made based on your size, but most are OSFA. I am tall and bigger, the stock ones have been fine so far.

I'm 5'5" and a 16/18. I love my Sweet Slings MT, seems her straps are much longer than on my BH. I also did good with my Moby wrap, you could make one of these longer if needed for pretty cheap so long as you can sew a straight line. My RS is OSFM and I have a TON of room in that. Most pouches are made to your size. HTH!!

You can get lots of MT's with XL straps. You can also get extenders for SSC and you can get really long wraps. Ring slings also come in XL+ it just depends what you want. Also what you want may not be the most comfortable. Do you have a NINO group in your area? Might be best to contact them and see if they have anything that might work so you can try before you buy.

I am plus size and love my babyhawk with XL straps. I also really like my karmababy pouch; it was excellent when DD was tiny.

I am a 22 and have a size f chest, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my maya ring sling. I liked my mei tai, but the one that I had the straps were not wide enough so I sold it, if it werent for the straps I really liked the versatility of having a mei tai and ring sling.

I'm size 18/20, 5"7 and have worn my babies successfully in a Slingling pouch (easiest to use), Maya Wrap - padded & unpadded, Nurtured little ones Mei Tai with extra long padded straps and a Moby Wrap (my favorite - super comfortable and can do multiple holds, baby very secure)
Good luck!

ring slings are the best way to go IMO for plus sized women. I love mine I got off of sleepingbaby.net (http://sleepingbaby.net/). It was a lot less expensive than others I found.
MT I found kinda cuts into your belly so personally wouldn't go that route. At least my big ol' belly!

Im 5'10" and a size 22/24 and I have decided to go with a pouch and wrap at this time. I think for me after much research is the best choice. I think once my baby gets older I may try a MT. I just cant wait until baby gets here so I can actually use some of the stuff I have bought already.

I have tried all sorts of things...(5'10" and a 22/24 on top) and here is my take:
My favorite carriers are mei tais because of their versatility and low learning curve. I also like using a two shouldered carrier (mei tai or wrap) when baby gets heavier. If I could only have one carrier it would be my Kozy carrier. They have XL straps available which are quite long (even at my size I can easily use the regular straps in a front carry, but I get XL so I can do back carries with a twist). They can be rolled up on the bottom for smaller babies, the angled straps keep the carrier from digging into my fat rolls  and it is equally as great for toddlers. The material is substantial and very supportive. (I loved my Babyhawk as well until my son got heavier and then the straps seemed to dig too much.) This is truly my workhorse carrier. I have used it from 2 days old to 2 years old +
I like Maya LP or Sleeping Baby Production Ring Slings.
I have never found a pouch I really liked cause I always had such a hard time with sizing. I think if you want to go this route I would try an adjustable puch (such as kangaroo korner or mamma's milk)
Wraps are great (although too hot for outside in the summer for me here). I love my Hoppediz and they come quite long in the maxi size. They also come with an instruction book which is GREAT and very helpful.
HTH

I made my own mei tai. They are very easy to make and work great. If you go this route you can PM me and I will send you the link that has a free pattern.
