I am looking at the different ways of doing back carry - they all seem a lot trickier than front...But my DS is way to heavy for front anymore. What is your favorite back carry method? Something that is easy to do, secure, and good for carrying a heavy baby/toddler? Thanks. :goodvibes:

Easy? Define easy... :giggle:. I think they are all easy, but I've been practicing!! I think you'd have an easy time picking up a MT back carry (I love my BHMT). Wraps are much harder, but good for heavy babies. Not a stretchy wrap, but a woven one. I have a Hoppediz. :goodvibes:

I've got a ring sling and a somewhat stretchy wrap. So far, I've preferred the wrap for most uses, but I have not studied how to carry ds on my back. I sort of figured "Wrap cross back carry", but I have hard time securing the baby.
Ok, what do I mean by easy - complicated is fine, since that I can learn. But if it requires acrobatics or more likely, if it can not be done without a mirror or alone, it is not easy.
Thanks. :goodvibes: Oh, and please try not to use too many abbreviations :newhere:

:yeahthat: Would an Ellaroo Wrap be good for that type of carry or a Didy?? OR lol just buying a certain kind of fabric??
Thanks!!

I love my didy for this carry, my EllaRoo dug a bit, around my collerbone area. But my didy is soooooo cushy for this wrap, its my get things done carry :) and its also DS's favorite carry.

The video is done with a didymos jaquard woven wrap, and I have a didymos NINO (a jaquard as well) that I use to wrap, its very supportive, and the right type of fabric makes a world of difference.
Gauzes work well as summer wraps but arn't as cushy as these woven wraps, I do like my gauze but if you don't wrap just perfect it digs into you :yuck: I haven't felt any fabric at joanns like the hand woven wraps.

MT and Becos are easy for back carry. There the only ones I've done, I'm not brave enough to wrap. Just pratice with DH spotting you and over the bed. It just takes a couple times to get it.

I think you need a different wrap for a back carry. stretchy wraps just aren't secure enough....try a gauze wrap or ellaroo for starters and see if you like it.
Personally I like a mei tai for back carries...I use a Toddlerhawk (made by babyhawk, distributed by many) for my 32lb 2yr old.

I am hearing all these raves about non stretchy wraps, but I've got one already and also the ring sling, so I'd prefer not investing to yet another wrap...but maybe I have to.
What's the best for stretchy wraps? "Wrap'n cross-underneath carry" is my favorite in the front - anything similar for the back??
What is MT? Thanks. :goodvibes:
And thanks for all the great links!

stretchy wraps really don't work well for back carrys sorry.
MT is a mei tai, they are easy to use and quicker than wrapping.

How do you get the baby in there? Looks great for a stretchy wrap!Unfortunately, it's not great for a stretchy wrap. :( If my wrap was stretchy DS would be able to pull his arms out, which would lead to him wiggling, then arching to see things, causing the back panel to slip... you can see this isn't good... and possibly cause him to fall out due to not being secure enough!
Also wanted to add that the carry I am doing in the pictures is not an easy one to master, so please have a spotter when trying it out (when trying all new positions for that matter). It's def. doable, many women use it, but practice is key. Here are some videos...
BWCC, no ends touching the ground. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MOQxeu0YYE)
BWCC. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbKdxwkBiRo&NR=1)

This is a friend of mine, please be aware that her son is a little monkey and she has been wrapping since he was born. I do NOT advise letting go of your LO to do this carry. With that said, she is an amazing wrapping inspiration to me!! (http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w76/thegreensling/?action=view¤t=MOV01491.flv)

I find the quickest and easiest to actually be a wrap for us. I like the security of the mt, but honestly, the strap on the bottom fustrates me, especially now that I'm preggers.
Usually, I just end up tossing my dd up into a ruck tied in front or in a tibetan. And I find it to be the quickest, easiest wrap back carry because honestly, my arms are short and I could never do the bwcc neatly. And I don't like messy wrap jobs.
Here are we in the tibetan with our woven wrap:

Some people think didys are too hot for summer. I haven't honestly used one through the summer yet, so I'm not sure.
Most people recommend gauze wraps, like gypsymama's for the summer. Those wraps are gorgeous. And very affordable.

Yeah I have a DIY gauze wrap right now! I didn't want to shell out any $$ for something just to sell again.... I figured if I like wrapping I'll treat myself to something special once I know I'll stick to it :)
Didy's are so cute but I keep reading on the TBW that you have to "break them in" what is that all about??

Hi Jessica,
No, I have never tried a Didy, but have read alot about them. Didy's aren't as thick as Hopps, still extremely supportive. The thing that kept me from trying a Didy is they are not as indestructible & the price. They can shrink, get pulls etc. I would check on TBW, there is TONS of info on them there.
The only wraps I have tried are bbslen, hopps & storchs' & I have a Vatani on the way. So I am not an expert.
But don't give up on your Hopp.

That is very true. I ruined my poor didy.
So I decided that indios are not for me. They seem like the most fragile of the didys. The jaquards are a little less destructible. I've been dying to get a storch though for the easy care of it. I don't know too much about Hopps, but it sounds like they're great. I hope you have better luck with yours.

Thanks ladies. :goodvibes: Mellie, Hopp's can go in the washer (I think even on hot, if not at least warm) and can go in the dryer. Maybe I should just go on a washing spree and that will help it along? :giggle: Mine also has a pocket on the end to store things.

I'm happy to know that about didy's.... I have a DIY SPOC and have been thinking of getting a "real" wrap. I don't want to spend all that money for somethng so fragile though... I need to look at hopp's I guess. I am just getting a little tired of all the research kwim? I wish I could just go into a store and get fitted and touch alll the fabric and walk out happy!

We LOVE our babyhawk mei tai - quick, user-friendly, super comfortable.
I am a HUGE didy fan though. Where you get the easier learning with a BabyHawk, the Didys (and other woven wraps) give you a lot more variations that you can do with it.
I have a gauze DIY wrap, and I thought it was fine - did the job. THEN I broke down and bought a Didy off of TBW and now I can't even tell you WHERE the DIY wrap is anymore, that's how long it's been since I used it.
But by far the easiest back carry, was a ring sling. I'd put him on my hip then tighten the sling quite tight, and scoot him around to my back. I could do housework, laundry, dishes, you name it - and he was back there snug as a bug.
