okay what would be the easiest thing to get for a newbie with a 24 lb 9 month old? i don't have any experience whatsoever, but i am SO interested in having something to keep my hands free. my ds is such a cuddler, but i can't hold him all the time or he would kill me...LoL...
i would need something reasonably priced and something that i would be able to put him in myself. i'm pretty clueless when it comes to babywearing.

*links would be awesome too*

A structured carrier or mei tai would be nice and easy. Some structured carriers are: patapum, beco, angelpack lx, ergo and some mei tais are: babyhawk, kozy, ball baby. Find them on FSOT for a good deal!

I think ring slings are great carriers to start with. I like SPB--- http://www.sleepingbaby.net/index.php and the lightly padded version of the Maya Wrap--- www.mayawrap.com

For a 2 shouldered carry, a woven wrap or a mei tai would be good. Check out TBW-- www.thebabywearer.com for reviews and how tos for all kinds of carriers. Also, you can see if there is a Nino group in your area, as many of them have a carrier library where you can check out a carrier to see if you like it before you buy.

I have used ring slings, wraps, mei tais, and structured soft carriers. if you want completely hands free then go towards a mei tai for the easy learning curve, ring slings if you're willing to be somewhat less hands free. I second thebabywearer.com except that it can be ovewhelming for a newbie. Your best bet is to do like the pp poster said and try to and attnd a NINO meeting... www.nineinnineout.org in your area and attend both to try out different carriers and to get help with carries. A lot of people try and give up because they have trouble learning to do it properly and just figure it's not for them but it is great especially if you're nursing.

I think a ring sling or a pouch is the easiest to learn to use. I LOVE my SBP sling (www.sleepingbaby.net)--it is the most comfortable one I've ever tried.

Mei tais are great but I was scared to try one as a newbie because they looked complicated. Once my friend convinced me to try hers I almost stole it. Don't be afraid to try it!

I would say a ring sling or a mei tai. Either way, practice getting him on your back, then your hands will really be free!

My 8 month old LOVES the ring sling with the HIP carry. I use it everywhere... grocery shopping...hiking.. he usually will nap in it as well. If it were up to him he would be in there all the time!! I LOVE my ring sling!! WAS by far the BEST 10$ I ever spent!! I got mine on ebay...slingababy... :P best of luck mama!!! :goodvibes:

I would recommend a ring sling, as well. My son is 6 months old and 16-17 pounds and still loves it in the kangaroo carry - but I used it with my DD up until she was nearly two (and I was 9 months pg!) and close to 30 pounds. Its really easy to learn to use and there's such versatility. The hip carry is nice, but really you can experiments with a bunch of options until you find one you both like - that's my favorite aspect of the ring slings. Oh - and I have a Maya and a WAHM sling from slingsandsacks.etsy.com... there's a lot of great choices!
