I don't want to come of rude or mean, I'm just curious if anyone else didn't get any stretch marks? *knock on wood*. I did get some on the tops of my breasts but not on my abdomin or legs.

with my first ds i only got some on the bottoms of my breasts and some on my hips and that was it. second ds did me in on my stomach and the top inside of my thighs. this ds so far has made some of those further and i have some on my thighs this time as well. my sisters on the other hand...one got a couple on her lower tummy (delivered both her ds's early early though), and my oldest sister only got them on her bum lol (she has 3 girls). it all has to do with the elasticity of your skin i think. so some of it is simply luck of the genetic draw!!!

Lucky you!! I got a ton when I had my son (nothing like a road map looking tummy at 16 years old) and thought I couldn't possibly get anymore witht he next. #2 added a few in places I didn't know could stretch and also stretched out the tops of all my previous marks. Now I am on #3, 29 weeks along and my belly is starting to itch. I just know more are to come. Oh, and yes I put cream all over every day and nothing has ever worked.

I think some women are genetically disposed to getting them. I used cream everyday from the time I was 2 months along and got stretch marks in my late 3rd trimester. I didn't gain much weight at all, but they still appeared. I just think of it as a little reminder of how big my belly was!

One of my cousins didn't get any at all with her first...I got a few but not nearly as bad as some people I know. With this one, all the old stretch marks just seem to be getting longer! I had actually expected to get them much worse because when I had my growth spurts during puberty, I got stretch marks all over from growing taller so fast...I figured pregnancy would do me in for sure!

One thing I read somewhere when I was pregnant with DJ was about a study someone had done to see if getting stretchmarks was in any way related to tearing during labor...like if your skin is really elastic and doesn't get stretchmarks, you'll be less likely to tear? They found a slight correlation...just thought it was interesting...

myajdw
06-21-2006, 09:17 AM
hmmm i don't know about that study. but they did just say a SLIGHT correlation so i guess that doesn't account for much. like i said with ds2 i got tons of them and the only reason i tore with him was b/c his hand was on top of his head. but as with any study it's not 100% correct and they did only say SLIGHT. that would kind of make sense though.

No I didn't - just lucky. But I need to lose about 40 lbs!

Youa re so lucky. I have them all over my breasts, on my belly, my legs down to the calves, my butt even has one just on top of where the crack stops. I look like my whole body is celulite from them. i did go from 130 - 185 with my sona nd then from 160 - 225 with my daughter so the huge weight gain is what is to blame)

It's weird but I got stretch marks w/ my first on the sides and on the body of my belly but they didn't get worse with number 2 and infact they are not noticable anymore unless you look real close. I expected them to get worse and not better!!!!

Mine are everywhere, it makes me self conscious and I no longer wear shorts. I have them on my belly, boobs, thighs, behind my knees, around my armpits.

Nothing like being 24 and having such disgusting belly flab. In a few years I'm getting a tummy tuck. Stupid, maybe, but I want to feel better about my body.

I didn't w/DS #1 but after DS #2 I looked like I was attacked by a tiger or something :giggle: I've used this oil on it though & it's really helped it lighten up.

:spit: No stretch marks??? LMBO Um, so not me! LOL I have a reasonable number of them that were very very light, faded to silver in a couple months after delivery...nothing to outlandish...but I'm already growing new ones now! I think I'll be very very very very stretched by the time the twinbits arrive! :giggle:

Hmm, I wonder about that study? I also didn't tear with either of my deliveries...they told me I had a superficail tear with DD1 I guess, whatever that means?!?!? But thats it. I didn't have an epi either. I've heard it was better to tear than get cut.

I remember when my BF got pregnant and had a baby at 16. She had the biggest purple stretch marks all over her tummy. I remember being mortified for her. Do they go away with time?

With my daughter I developed light stretch marks on the tops of my breasts. And I think the ones I have on the insides of my thighs actually happened during labour?

My mother developed many stretch marks from her three pregnanacies. Her sister, who takes exceptional care of her skin didn't develope any notable stretch marks during her three. I really think that while a good deal of it is genetic, another major factor in how your skin deals with pregnancy and weight gain has to do with how well you take care of your skin not only when you are pregnant but also when you aren't pregnant. Can't start taking good care of your skin once you get a positive pregnancy test and expect to come out with minimal damage. You need to lotion your body everyday, especially after bathing. Water really dries skin out.

The only I've gotten have been a few on my hips. And even then, we're talking maybe 2 or 3 on each side. None anywhere else.

I've given birth to five babies and I didn't get a single one!!!! My mother has them so bad (3 children) that her stomach reminds me of elephant skin! My sister got them too! I was parinoid and I used Palmers Coconut Oil each time I was pregnant every morning and every night. I'm not saying that this definately helps, I know a lot of people will dispute it, but I don't have any stretch marks. It smelled good and felt good rubbing it on my belly anyway so it was a good thing if it helped or not!

Stretch marks never go away, they just fade. Mine were purplish too but are now more silverish.

As for the tearing this will make you cringe. When I had my son he weighed 9lbs. 13ozs and my hips had not spread to accomodate him. He was coming out vaginally when they realized just how big he must be. I started to tear and that didn't help so they cut me to the left, to the right and straight down just to make enough room. The doctor said I required just over 100 stitches down there. When dd came along I was scared to death but she was much smaller and I just got a superficial tear that they didn't even stitch up. I have a feeling this one is going to be bigger so I'll keep you posted!!

A lot of my stretch marks (hips and slightly around to my butt, boobs, thighs) are due to puberty...but the ones on my belly are pregnancy....and I didn't get any with ds1 until...something like 33 weeks...I thought I was getting away stretch mark free..but.. noooooooo. They exploded after that first one showed. With ds2, I don't think I got any more..but the ones I had got wider and longer. They even go down into my pubic bone (or rather, the skin that covers it!)...and then most of the ones on the inside of my thighs, behind my legs, and down into my calves...and then a very slight few (like...2-3) on my arms into my armpit are from just being too big for too long I guess. The ones on my armpits (or whatever) are fairly new and they really inspired me to lose weight. I'm working on it hard now and hopefully won't get anymore!

I sure wish I was one of the lucky ones who didn't get them. My mom didn't! She said she weighed 114 (at 28yo) when she went in to birth me....when she left, she was 112. Makes me sick!! I was 224 with #1 and 217 with #2. Not fair at all! Thankfully, I'm 175 today and hopefully still losing!

I am pregnant with my third baby right now, and I have never gotten any stretch marks on my belly. I have a few light stretch marks on my breasts, but that is it. This is sad to say, but I rarely to never use lotion. So, I am not sure why I don't get stretch marks. It's certainly not because I use lotion after every shower???

myajdw
06-21-2006, 06:17 PM
i don't really know that lotion necessarily prevents them....possibly it helps? i dunno. as i said i think it's more genetics than anything. and as far as the "tearing is better theory" for delivering it really depends on the situation. the way this got started was b/c some ob's don't cut far enough and that can make you tear. think making a cut in a t-shirt and then pulling at both sides. but if you NEED the episiotimy and it's done properly it doesn't make anything any worse.

I guess I'm a lucky one...no stretch marks anywhere and no tears in birthing. I did put coconut and almond oil on my belly and boobs twice a day during pregnancy, and did lots of squating and kegals to prevent tearing. I also eat lots of avocados, which has vitamin E in it which helps the skin.

I don't think I got any with my second or third... perhaps because there wasn't any room left after getting about 3,000 for my first!! But now they are very faded and even during my last pg you could barely see them. Or so I told myself. LOL

i look like a cat attacked my tummy. they're slowly turning silver...a year later:yuck: my mom didn't get any with either of us so i was hoping to luck out with genetics...nope. even the palmers oil did nothing. just made me feel like i was being prepared to bake:laugh:

I've been really lucky so far. I only have two stretch marks, and they are coming up in a "v" shape from my navel piercing hole. I dont doubt that if I had never pierced my gosh darn belly button, I probably wouldn't have gotten them! They are about 2 inches long and are a nice dark shade of purple (lol). I don't like them, but I'm thankful....it could be MUCH worse! Hopefully they will fade a bit and won't be too noticable.

Even with twins I didn't severe stretch marks. I certainly never got the long, angry red type. It was more like a lot of little tiny strech marks that started on my butt and went across my tummy. Dh has stretch marks on his butt and some major ones across his back from growth spurts during puberty. I really think he has more than I do!

My doctor said its mostly genetics .... that some women can do everything right:
gain weight evenly slowly and less no more than 30lbs
excersise
drink lots of fluids
mantain and add to a healthy skin routine (including using little to no soap, lotion, oils rich in vitamins etc)
take extra vitamins
and they are still going to get it no matter what
dark tones of skin are also more likely to get it than lighter tones is what he said

None for me. I have two small ones on my hips from puberty, but I did not get any from pregnancy. I did butter up each day, sometimes twice from head to toe....

With DD1, I got a slight few on my hips (basically on the sides of where my pregnant belly would be) and they were a very light pearlecence (sp?) white. You couldn't see them unless you looked at an angle. I could feel them if I dragged my finger slowly across my belly.

DD2 didn't give me any new stretch marks but man oh man did she stretch my belly out to the point that I now have jello belly and there isn't anything to do but get a tummy tuck.

DD3 gave me bad vericose veins from my calves all the way to you know where. But no new stretchmarks. Still have the flabby belly and I'd like to now add a boob lift to the deal.

I went from 120 to 180 with DD1.
I went from 125 to 175 with DD2.
I went from 135 to 165 with DD3.
So all pregnancies had a large amount of weight tossed in there.

I agree with the genetics thing. I know a little skinny woman that has the map of China on her rearend from her one and only child that she had at 19 and she took great care of herself and her skin... I'm one that barely remembers to put lotion on and I certainly am not consistent with vitamins.

So I don't know... and I never tore on any of my deliveries...nothing major anyway... the most stitching I've ever had was 6 stitches...

Lol.. elephant skin!:giggle:
That's me!
I have tons. From my knees to my armpits! After my third, we were talking about me getting a tummy tuck when we're done (for sure ;)) with having kids.. but now, I don't really care anymore.. Maybe it's my age.. I had Aidan when I was a couple months shy of 21 and was pretty sad that I'd never be able to wear a bikini again at such a young age! I don't care so much anymore.. My hubby still adores me and thinks my squishy, wiggly skin is fun and cute. My skin has no elasticity and dries easily. The best thing I found for the dryness is massaging Vit E oil into my belly, hips and boobs a couple times a day - it helped keep the itchies away!!:)

dd1, tore me up! I was 113 at start of pregnancy and 150 when I delivered. I also didn't get most of them until after delivery! I took very good care of my skin and dh rubbed me down with a pasty cocobutter every night. I got lazy though around month 7 and that is when it all when down hill!

dd2, none! I went from 136 to 150. I bought an expensive belly butter from Bellini and a salve from the Wellness Center and exfoliated and everything until delivery. I do believe it made a huge difference.

About tearing, I had episiotomies with both, my opening just wasn't big enough.

Well I spoke WAY too soon. So much for me only having 2 stretch marks...

In the course of the last week I have developed 8 more! All on the lower part of my belly and an oh-so-lovely shade of violet.

So much for all the Palmer's I have been spackling myself with daily...HA!

lol i went all the way to 28 weeks with NONE then at 29 weeks i got a tiny one above my belly button...thought ok thats not to bad.by the time i had molly my whole belly, sides, legs, behind the knees,boobs,butt...you name it LOL had stretch marks. and not just little ones either..these suckers are so deep they hurt.unfortunatly they are to deep to do anything about even now..but they are my battle scars and im proud of the reason why i have them:hugegrin: btw i heard they are genetic

I've heard that too...but I don't think it was true in my case. My mom had two children and not a single stretch mark....and she had my sister when she was almost 40!
Unless I got them from my dad? Hmmmmmm....

I didn't get a single stretch mark with either baby! Both of my sisters got a ton though, so I don't know why I didn't.

However, I never really "showed". The day I delivered my son I was wearing my regular jeans (low rise) and a red sox t-shirt! LOL! I never gained weight with my last pregnancy, I delivered under pre-preggo weight (i was VERY sick).

LOL!! I got "devil horns" coming out of my belly button when i was pg with DS. Now I have new ones, of course - but what do you expect? There IS a mom who is a few weeks further along than me with twins who can take GREAT pics in a bikini, LOL. She has NO stretch marks, lucky duck!
