Okay so Cody is 9 so I don't remember when we started w/ him or anything. What is the ideal age to start PL? 18mos? Sooner? Later? And is it different with a CD child vs. one who was in sposies? Is it better to have a kiddie potty or just a seat for the big toilet or just have em use the big toilet? Any other info you wanna share... :)

DD is 2 1/2 and just now showing interest in potty training. We have both the rings for the big potty and a little potty for her and she will have nothing to do with the big potty. If the little one isn't available she just won't go on a potty. (therefore we're only in the house potty trained for now) We tried potty training dd at a little before age 2 thinking she seemed ready and she totally wasn't ready and just got frustrated with us. This time she is super excited about it and doing a wonderful job.

I didn't really look for a specific age to start. We just waited until DS showed some interest in pottying and telling us he'd peed and pooped, and bought a little potty for him, at around 20 months, I think. He just played with it for a while, but eventually he started to go in it occasionally. He has much preferred to use the regular toilet since just after his 2nd birthday though. He's 2.5 now, and I'd say he's mostly potty learned now. He's been diaper-free by his choice for about 2 months and does great in public and most of the time at home (unless he just doesn't *want* to go potty). We do still have a lot of nighttime accidents though.

Call me stupid, but what it PL?

My ds showed interest in the potty (we were sposies parents:yuck: ) at 18 months. He did his first pee-pee exactly on that day! We tried to potty train, but it was really a lost cause because HE wasnt ready. Eventually, leading up to his 3rd birthday, I said he wasnt allowed to use the potty until he was "big boy 3" and that totally worked. By taking it away, it made him want it back. One day, I promise, your LO will realize that it isnt acceptable to go in your pants. He did it all on his own by 3y1m old.

We did have Poo-poo issues, and I think it was just a fear of the unknown. We played potty games (without touching the potty) We threw in flushable things like cheerios and raisin, talked about how we feel poop in out belly and how it comes out and goes into the potty. Then we flush it, just like the cheerios and raisins (I was going for sinkers and floaters, hehe) Just that little potty role playing got us over that poop fear quick. We also never used a little potty, becasue I didnt want him to wean off of it. He just strattled the potty backwards for poop, and stood up for pee-pee.

HTH!! Good Luck!

We learned the hard way w/DD1, that you just gotta wait til they're ready. We tried when she was 18mo w/a potty. She started peeing in it for a day, then I left her home w/DH, I was a WOHM. That was the end of that.:banghead: She wasn't fully PT til almost 4yo. DS taught himself. I guess he was sick of sposies. He wanted to run around naked, we let him. It took like a week of learning to go in the toilet, not the backyard! But that was a breeze. Goes to show, every kid is diff. When they're ready, they're ready.:goodvibes:

My daughter is 2 1/2 and she shows interest, but will NOT go in the big potty or her potty. She'll hold it until she has a diaper. I'm just waiting for her to be 100% ready.

We tried to PL at 2 with dd#1 and failed miserably. So I let her tell us when she was ready.
DD#1 was 3 1/2yo when she PL
DD#2 was 3yo exactly when she PL
DD#3 is only 16mo and I don't see her PL any time soon :goodvibes:

My daughter was interested in her cousins potty at 18m, so I got her a little potty. When I changed her and her diaper was dry, I knew she would need to go, so we tried then. I guess it was a mix of Pling and EC.
She was also really fond of washing her hands and knew she would get to do that after using the potty ( even just trying) so that encouraged her trying.

She was going really long between wet diapers so I new she had good bladder control. We didn't push and she was mostly daytime PL by 25-26 months. Which is kind of sad in the CD world.

I haven't read it, but I remember being recommended "Potty Free before 3" is a good PL book.

thanks for all your responses! This is another thing my family is pressuring/hassling/ANNOYING me about "when are you going to potty train him?" along with "when are you going to wean him?" :banghead: LEMME alone! when he is READY!

I think it really depends on the child. I've heard cloth can make a difference. DS1 didn't potty train til 2mos ago and he'll be 4 next month. DS2 who is 2 potties during the day using the naked method but will still pee in underwear and wears dipes at naps, night and when we go out or to go poo. DS1 was in pull ups and DS2 is cloth diapered, but we didn't start til he was 9mos and then we stopped for awhile and now we do it again.

ETA: I tell them he will give it all up before school but when hes ready, I PROMISE them that he will NOT go to school in diapers and with a bottle

My oDS pl'd at exactly 2.5yo. Little ds is...1/2 pl'd (goes regularly in a day, but not all the time - on the potty) and he's been this way for the past month or so and he's not quite 22 months.
