with all the recalls these days and reading about unsafe plastics (esp those made in China)... I am so fricken sick of it :banghead: I would love to throw all the plastic stuff out of my house. Too bad we have such an addiction with plastic as a society.. it doesn't last and isn't good for our kids to play with. I just cring everytime I see plastic made in China b/c I really don't know how bad it is for my children...e sp my teething baby!

Sadly, it's not just plastics. The recent Thomas and Friends recall was a recall of wooden toys.

I am phasing out plastic toys and moving over to wood and cloth, but will still be on alert for any issues.

I agree this is such a problem for our society and wooden toys are so expensive and even then you can't be sure they're ok. I've been picking up some nice wooden toys at garage sales this summer though and it just thrills me whenever I can get a good deal on something like that!

Kid's won't miss what they have never had. My dds have a few plastic toys that they have received as gifts but thats it. The toys we have bought them are handcrafted wood toys, waldorf dolls, wool or wood teethers and toys. It is alot more expensive but it will last forever. I personally don't like most plastic toys because they only allow the child to play with them one way and many play for the child instead of vice versa. I simply do not buy plastic. If you buy from a wahm/wahd or family buisness they will not be using lead based paint on the toys. Many are unfinished or use a natural wax finish.
