For all you mama's out there that are non-vaxing how do you get away with it? Do you ALL homeschool? My son's preschool would not accept him as a student until he had ALL his shots current and up to date. I'm not for homeschooling and I'm wondering how you get around these crazy school rules?

I believe you can fill out a waiver that states it's your religious beliefs that's how most do it I think

Check the vax sticky at the top of this forum or just google for vaccine exemption and your state. I believe every state allows medical exemptions (hard to get) and religious exemptions and several states allow philosophical exemptions. Some states are stricter about religious exemptions than others but those are being challenged. Basically, the idea is that the first ammendment protects your right to practice your religion so even if no one else in the world shares your religious beliefs, if they're yours, then they're protected. Some states ask for a letter from a clergyman or something but like I said, that's being challenged. I'm in GA and I had to write a letter saying that the vaccines are against my personal religious beliefs and get that notarized. Here, they're not allowed to ask any questions beyond that. Now, if there is an outbreak of a vaccine preventable disease, then the school can send my kids home till it's over, but they can't require me to vax if it's against my religious beliefs.

here is some illinois vax exemption information, looks like you have religious exemption and it says it has all the forms you need :goodvibes:
http://www.vaclib.org/exempt/illinois.htm
I just got a notorized statement that says "This is to certify that we, (our names here), do attest that we feel immunization and/or TB testing would be injurious to our children, (DS & DD's names here), due to our philosophical beliefs.

We do homeschool, but Kearnan also gets therapy through the public school system. For that we have a waiver. Tx has all three, but almost all states have at least medical and religious. Many now have the philisophical as well. Despite all of the information to the contrary they cannot force you to vaccinate your child. It is true however that some private schools do not accept waivers (if they accept no government funds they are not bound by state laws in the same way). However for most as well as all public schools there are ways around vaxes.

Ditto what everyone else said. "Required" vaxes are not actually required. :giggle:

No government funded school can force you to vaccinate for your child to attend. Only private, non-government funded schools. The college we attended (and DH currently works for and we live on the campus) forces vaccinations, they have no idea my son is not vaccainted, no idea what they'd say if they found out. But I wouldn't vax him anyways. Still, if he ever chooses to come here, he'd have to get vaccinated. But that will be his choice, 17 years in the future. KWIM? And for daycares and schools here, they except exemptions. He'll go to public schools more than likely. But there is a private school we'd look into, my first question would be about their exemptions though.

Public school and middle child just started pre-school. We printed the exemption form and turned it in to the preschool teacher. At school the nurse has them. I don't think ours even asks what type of exemption but our is philisophical.
Our preschool teacher said that when her files are checked they are looking for a 95% vax rate, so there should never be any problems.
