I am trying to resolve a purchase. I bought a pair of diapers that had either holes in the seams or broken serging on them. Neither of which was included in the description. The description did say they had light staining.

I paid $25PPD for the diapers. I am desiring to send these back to the mama for a refund. I am confused about the refund amount she is offering. I believe she is willing to refund the $25. I was chatting with some of you this weekend (in the DS chat room) and the advice I got was that I should ask for the cost of return shipping as well. Since it was a lack of description on the part of the seller, and not just my dislike of the diaper.

The mama who sold these to me is wanting to refund half of pp now and half when she gets the diapers back. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Isn't a refund sort of like purchasing? I sent her all of the money before receiving the diapers.

I'm sorry for the dialog. I've just never had to send diapers back before.
I guess the short version is...

Is it reasonable to ask for a full refund plus return shipping?
Is it reasonable to ask for the refund before shipping the diapers back?

TIA

I think it's completely reasonable to ask for the full refund before the dipes go back. You could file with pp if she never refunded you the second half, but who knows how that would go? I also think that if she didn't include it in her description then she's at fault so she should just give you the refund w/o just asking if she could do half.
I don't think I personally would even bother with the shipping. I guess it's reasonable to ask for refund + return shipping, I just wouldn't bother myself.

I agree you should be refunded the exact amt you paid $25. I will never understand why some moms feel that they dont have to list holes or serging problems. I have started pm'ing with all dipes saying im interested but then asking specifically if there are holes, staining, or any other problems, so I dont have this problem. Good Luck!!

She needs to refund the full amount and I'm not really sure about the return shipping BUT if you pay for Delivery Confirmation and email her with it that should settle any ?'s about refunding your money (if she's not trusting that you will actually send them after she gives you the money back).

Still, tell her you will pay for DC and email her with it (if you don't use paypal that is. Paypal will email her immediately when you create a label but if you don't use paypal then you'll need to email her. DC is $0.14 on paypal and $0.60 at the PO).

Sorry to say I'm dealing with a similar issue right now. I'm interested to know how things work out for you. (And me!)

Yes it is reasonable to expect a full refund for items not as described. Return shipping would be nice but know that paypal does not hold the seller responsible to pay for return shipping. If you should file with paypal, you will not be refunded return shipping. It is not reasonable to expect a refund before returning the diapers. You need to send the items back first. As a seller I would never refund before recieving the item back. She would have no recourse if you decide not to return, kwim? REfunding is different than purchasing. As a buyer you can file with paypal to get your money back if you do not recieve the item. However she cannot file with paypal over a refund if she never recieves the diaper back. You need to get delivery confirmation to protect yourself. It sounds like she is trying to work it out with you. I hope it all works out for both of you. Good luck.
